I'm taking a course on Web-design and hope to have my own web-site sometime.

Does anyone have any knowledge and/or first-hand experience of/with Lycos.co.uk, the web-hosting company?

I don't... but I would say, before considering any company, work out what you want.

You tend to get what you pay for, though many different factors contribute... such as up-time, php, mysql, storage space, ssl, etc.

Plan it in advance then look at the various options (both paid and free) to see what is the best.

Fairydreams is correct you need to look around for different hosting providers and what they offer most of the free ones have pop-up adds (that’s how they make there money)

Depending what software you are using as well contributes to the choice you make in that if you use front page you may need FrontPage extensions enabling on your web space.

Feel free to look at www.glasstop.net we sell domain names and provide webhosting. There are many different packages for many different types of users. We believe that your space is yours and your domain name is yours, you will therefore have 110% banner free hosting space and you will also be the owner of any domain names.

Depends if you want a free home page or one you want to pay for. I'm using geocities at the moment, the only problem I've had is with the advertising being in the way!

Try NDO www.ndo.co.uk. They have a dial up service that will give you a free .co.uk. alternatively, you could just use your existing isp's webspace and buy a domain at www.123reg.co.uk and point it at your isp's site with the isp domain masked.

Does the above make any sense?
