Joking aside, why don't this BNP Paribas company change their name to something less offensive? It can't be good for their PR being associated with a racist organisation, even if its by mistake.

The target audience of the Banque National de Paris is France. Somehow can't see your average Frenchman being aware of BNP (Fat Nick variety).

Yes, we all know they're two different things, but the letters "BNP" have unfortunately connotations that this French company may not have been aware of when they were starting up. They could change it to NBP (National Bank of Paris) for example.

Initially it was quite clear he did believe that the "BNP" sponsoring the tennis was the BNP he knew and loved.

The post linked to above was from later ... after he'd realised his error and taken the mockery and was now trying to pretend he'd been on the wind up all along.
