A boy who live down the road about 6 doors away has got a GOPED (http://www.goped-scooters.com/images/gsr40-3.jpg)
and her rides it up and down the road. It's petrol powered and I thought he would need to get something to drive it like insurance or something. Do you need to get soemthing or not to use a GOPED (http://www.goped-scooters.com/images/gsr40-3.jpg)

If it's petrol powered, and it's on the public road, I would think it would need insurance, road tax, and a provisional bike license at least.....and it is illegal to ride it on a public access pedestrian area such as a park or footpath.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

They are not legal if ridden on public roads as far as I am aware.

We have one or two idiots with gopeds around here too!

I remember seeing something about this on the telly a while back...

Gopeds cannot be legally ridden on the public roads, nor on public footpaths. Therefore, unless there is somewhere private where Goped riding is allowed, it isn't worth having one.

As for a kid riding one up and down the road, I think you'll find that, if he's under 16, he's breaking the law in that way.

Whatever, if a Goped is being ridden on the public road or footpath, or if the kid is under 16, by law, the police should deal with it if it's reported.

EDIT: The same applies to mini motor bikes that I keep seeing kids riding around the streets:rant:

If all above posts are correct, get on the phone. You might be saving the kid - and some other unfortunate - from a nasty accident..... and it'll be quieter!

And when you ring them, impress upon them that you are ringing to voice your concern for the kid's safety....not because of the noise. It might just effect their reaction.

Tax, insurance, test certificate, license, crash helmet? It IS a motorised vehicle after all.

like the above posts mentioned, gopeds and mini-motos and midi motos are not allowed to be ridden on public roads, paths or any public grounds, you can only ride them on private land with the owners permission.
this applys no matter how old the rider is

Let us know what reaction you get from the boys in blue Zinger.

I have a feeling most of us will have to spend winter having to dodge/sleep through these things this year.

full size quads can actually be road legal if you're over 17 of course and they have light's and a number plate fitted.

mini quads aren't though
