View Full Version : Do you like Christmas?

I don't want to sound like a grump, but I have to admit I really hate Christmas!
It's the lead up to Christmas that I hate - ie Christmas cards and trimmings in stores in September! The traffic, the queues, the organising, the demand it makes on my time - ohhhhhh!
Yet, no matter how I hate it, I always make the effort, trim up the house, buy pressies, put on a party and put a smile on my face - but I must admit I'd really love to opt out, and retreat to a desert island where they've never heard of Christmas!

I am usually full of Christmas cheer and usually get sick of people moaning about how they hate it etc...

But this year... i really dont want it to happen... i am so not in the mood for it this year... i thought it was all down to being a real stressful year... but i spoke to my Mum the other day and she told me she feels exactly the same... she also admitted she nearly didnt decorate her house as she really cant be bothered... now i was really shocked to hear this as my Mum is like a kid when it comes to Christmas... bless her... she loves it all...

Anyway we got talking about Christmas presents and how no one knows what they want as we all seem to have everything nowadays... but what i realised is that we cant decide on what we want because what we'd REALLY! like... people just cant afford...

ie: New house, new car, receive loads of money, a new washing machine, a new boat etc... this list goes on... so we just end up saying anything...

Strange how the mind suddenly kicks in and works over time... :hihi:

well its always better when your a kid, or if you have kids around.
but for me this year, i cant say im too fussed, but its still a time to spend with those you love and care about, and forget about the ones you dont.

so no doubt by the time this weekend comes around, i'll be feeling a little happpier about it all.

i always find it worse when im single though, i dont know why

Cheer up folk!.... it only comes but once a year. For single people it can be distressing but it is the best time of year to meet someone so get yourself out there.... for people with children it can be a burdening time of the year and for couples it may mean they have to spread themselves around a lot of people when they just want to enjoy each others company.

Just think of it like a one time in the year that everyone makes the effort to meet, enjoy each others company and bestow a gift of appreciation.... if we never did it we would probably never see half the people we do at this time.

I know it is commercialised these days.... but only as far as we let it be.

Having missed the majority of Christmasses due to having to work in the NHS for 16 years, it's a priviledge I now cherish.

To have a lie in on Christmas morning, watch me lad massacre his pile, knowing that I can have a bottle of wine after dinner & pass out with no need to leave the house.

Same too for New Years.

 Bring it on!

I love Christmas :D even more so now that I can share it with my family now that I'm back in Sheffield.
Last year was hard, I had a really great time visiting family and friends, I love it when we all get together, but then came the sad bit :( having to leave them.
So this year I'm feeling really happy about spending Christmas with all my family :D

Ah people who also hate Christmas, all my family think I am a Scroge because I don't like it. I just think it is all so false, I am not religious, I hate how you don't speak to people all year and just cos it's Christmas have to send cards etc. I hate the mess of all the decorations and I can honestly say most of em look tacky and crap anyway. It is exspensive and althought it is nice to recieve presants I would quite happily go without. I suppose it does have 2 things going for it thou, 2 weeks of work and Christmas dinner!!!

I like christmas because:

It is a time to meet up with old friends.
It is a time to see your family (this is also bad).
I get time off work.
Presents - giving and receiving.
You can go to durham cathedral and listen to nice singing (well I can).

I hate christmas because:

Its hideously over commercialised.

Everyone spends vast amount of money on total crap that just gets thrown in the bin.

Everyone cooks too much and throws it in the bin.

You have to give out christmas cards to people who frankly never communicate with you in real life. what is the point?. Say hello to me in the morning instead - I'm talking about work people here! These get thrown in the bin.

THis year I have to say I didn't give out cards. Instead I donated money to charity. Maybe we should all do this.

its not that i dislike christmas and the things it should mean and represent.

it just that i hate the reality of christmas for me.

this is my diary for the next 2 weeks:

wed 21st: go to an hours meeting to discuss a 30 page report that ive spent the last 2 days writing.

catch up on all the other work that has taken a back seat because of the report.

go home- do chores and packing for christmas visit to london.

thurs 22nd: do a full day at office, then go to work at the pub straight after to do another 3.5hrs- get home at midnight.

fri 23rd: go to work- finish early at 3!!! go to work at pub for 5 til close- get home for midnight.

sat 24th: get a lift back to the parents in stafford at 9.30 am. help mum with preparation of christmas dinner. go to pub (driving- is 3 miles away from home) to see old school friends.

sun25th: watch dad and brother get increasing drunk and volotile. juggle refereeing between them, trying to stop mum from crying of stress and do all the washing up, serving drink/food for everybody else.

mon 26th: go to london at about 10.30am to have lunch at aunties. deal with dads hangover and watch him get tiddly again and insult his mother in law.

tues 27th: take bro shopping to get his belated birthday pressie and christmas pressie in one go.

wed 28th: get train back to sheffield

thurs 29th: work at office and pub

fri 30th: work at office and pub

sat 31st: work at pub

sun 1st: work at pub because of football

mon 2 (bank holiday): have to go into work to start the bi-weekly 30 page report again

continue as normal.....

christmas should be about seeing friends and loved ones, but im not going to have time to enjoy any of their company because of the circumstances and lack of time.

im full of cold, run into the ground, skint, and all i want to do is be one my own, snuggled up on the sofa watching crap tv with junk food. i just want some peace and quiet.

busiest time of my year, working like a dog, no time to do much, but I love every minute of it, watching my daughter and nephew opening presents and loving everything from 300 quids worth of playstation or whatever to a plastic whistle, seeing mates for the one and only time this year, brilliant!

I do like Christmas - the lights, tree, presents, some really good Christmas songs, crackers, mince pies etc. Mind you, to me it doesn't feel like Christmas time. I wish it would snow, then maybe it'd feel more Christmassy. It can be stressful or whatever, but nothing's perfect.
