View Full Version : Forum running slowly today.
Is it just me, or is the Forum taking... ages... to... load... pages...?
It's been like this all afternoon and evening, at work and at home, so I think the problem isn't me.
:help:

Fine untill Thames :(
It's been happening to me to, ever since last night, which is why I was checking my wireless utility, mentioned in my thread.
Thank goodness it's not just me:suspect:
Add me to this, mine has been slow all night
At first when it took ages to log in I thought I had been banned :hihi:
Yes, it has been slow.
I've contacted Geoff to see if there's any work going on on the server that might explain it.
However, I've also noticed that ebay is quite slow for me.
I'll keep you all posted!
:)
OK, thanks guys.
FYI, I got this a minute ago:
Warning: mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /home/sforum/www/admin/db_mysql.php on line 40
There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
Looks like a server problem to me. It's been slow for me since yesterday as well :?
Draggletail 20-12-2005, 23:19 Slow for me yesterday and today :( - Glad it's not just me...
After debating long and hard, I didn't start this thread as I expected it to be closed with a 'contact us' notice slapped on it
Thanks to Tony for replying to my PM though
I assume it's people getting a bit impatient with the 'submit reply' thing that's creating all the duplicate posts about the place too?
Is this go-slow anything to do with the 'new forum' thing then?

I doubt it Strix. Me and Tyler completely upgraded and installed all the necessary hacks (extensions to you and me) within 3 hours.
Geoff and the team probably won't start work on the changes until the last minute (although the planning will be done before hand) :)
Yep. slow for me too. Reported the SQL error to Joe last night but I think he was asleep. Have had lost posts too!
fruit&nut 21-12-2005, 15:27 mines slow today, and im not getting any emails notices from forum:cry:
spyro2000 21-12-2005, 15:29 Its quite slow for me too, but it isnt that bad. Just takes a little longer to post and move from page to page, just requires a bit of patience in order to not click more than once, otherwise you get a double message.
Definitely server side issues - I'm away from home at the moment so haven't checked whether I've had feedback from geoff.
We were planning on doing some clearing out of the database - old posts, etc. - whether that's in progress at the moment I have no idea.
The 'can't connect to database' message is indeed an indicator that it's server side issues.
Again, will keep you posted as soon as I know anything more.
Joe
fruit&nut 21-12-2005, 15:40 so is anyone else not recieving emails or is it just me?
i have reported it
its not just you. if the server is struggling, they may have switched them off temporarily.
...alternatively, perhaps they're queuing up on the server, thousands of the blighters, ready to inundate us with emails about messages from days past....
A friend of mine registered yesterday but never received his registration details :?
Hope it catches up soon...
It seems worse today, than yesterday....just took three minutes to post a message in another thread.
**waits with baited breath for JoeP to receive information ~ just hope it's not sent via the SF e-mail service....could be days:wink: **
Winemaster 21-12-2005, 18:14 Mebbe the Hosts are trying to compete with the BBC message boards :o
Seriously,
As soon as I get any information I will let people know.
In the meantime, Spyro's advice is good - be patient and don't hit teh send button too often, 'cos it'll generate duplicate messages.
Again, apologies - normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.
Joe
Cherry_Pop 22-12-2005, 13:48 Is it due to been slow as everyone says that my Cherries arent sparkling and my smilie people arent moving?? I was just about to ask someone about it when I saw this, I thought it might have something to do with the NORTON iv got on my comp, seems to have slown everything down. xx
Yes I duplicated a message three times yesterday..
Am being less click happy now..
leg_luvva 22-12-2005, 15:14 Mines slow enough to drive miss daisy :D
oooooooh I just posted a message, and it only took seconds rather than minutes.....does this mean it's fixed now?
Different bits of the Forum seem slower than others..I'm really bored seems to take the longest.
forum slow and also ebay the last couple of days
Seems to be back up to speed again on my last couple of posts.
Just had a couple of crashes... wondered if it was just me.
Couldn't find server. Not having any DDOS attacks are you? That tends to make our site suffer in this way... slow and then dying.
JFKvsNixon 22-12-2005, 22:56 Nobody posted any posts from 21:36 untill 23.32, has the forum been having problems or are people not bothered to post any more?
It has also occurred to me that everyone could be at a massive forum party that everyone has been invited to apart from me!

Kristian 22-12-2005, 23:14 Mod: Threads Merged.
If i had to hazard a guess i would say the database has just been 'cleansed' and the server rebooted (probably completely wrong though).
We've been lucky though. It's just taken over a day for something similar on my hosts server :(
Just to let you know, we were having server trouble and the 'outage' was deliberate to try to sort things out.
Give it a little time and hopefully things should get back to normal. In the meantime feel free to post any problems in this threat.

If you must all know, I threw a tantrum last night and chucked the server out of the high tower here at Pritchard Towers.
It made a resounding thudding noise as it fell through the thatched roof of one of the peasant cottages. Fortunately, the fall was broken by a member of the peasant's family.... :)
Seriously, as Tony says, we are having a few ups and downs and hopefully the reboot may help.
As an aside, I think there are other sites having issues - two or three sites I regularly use have also been running slow the last fes days, but SF is leading thepack. :)

alchresearch 23-12-2005, 10:16 I wonder if it's anything to do with the sheer volume of people shopping online this Christmas? Argos, Amazon and Play have had some real problems this year.
fruit&nut 23-12-2005, 10:20 probably,
i switched pc on this morning 131 emails!!!!
pattricia 23-12-2005, 21:25 Tried six times to log on to Forum last night, just kept saying Packard Bell Error 404,or something like that.Thought the Forum was having a Christmas break,as I cant imagine the Mods wanting to work over Christmas. Was really surprised when it worked first time tonight.!
