View Full Version : Trouble getting a job
Helen Ellie 21-05-2011, 11:20 Hi there
I have recently finished my NVQ in Business Admin and I am now actively seeking work.
Applied for a large number of jobs and Agencies yet I dont seem to be getting anywhere, with the few that have actually contacted me personally to inform me that I have been unsuccessfull, its always the same story, 'Not enough experience', yet I have had 2 full years worth of on hand experience and my years worth of college training.
Is there anything I can do, when I need more experience yet no one is willing to give me the chance to prove myself?
Shefuser 21-05-2011, 16:46 Hi

The problem is there are thousands with NVQs in business. Some still refer to them as 'Not Very Qualified' and when applicants have experience and higher qualifications then you can see who gets the job.
I would suggest volunteering for a small charity or community group. Offer to do their admin.

Neither is spelling it seems.
indizine 21-05-2011, 18:22 £36/hr OTE would seem a a tad unrealistic too. People just don't fall for that anymore be ause for 99.99% it is not achievable, certainly not as a mean average across the year, every year, as a sustainable wage.
I would suggest doing voluntary work so that your experience is more recent and up-to-date.
theres a care home opening soon in shiregreen, wanting staff
Helen Ellie 21-05-2011, 19:08 Think I will try charity work, just really want to get back into work, and I am really not looking for OTE based work, had a bad experience with Zee Solutions so I am not prepared to get messed around like that again.
Just looked on www.do-it.org.uk and did an advanced search, if you put admin in 'what I would like to do', within 10 km of Sheffield, there are 65 opportunities coming up! Some are not strictly speaking admin, but there are administrator roles for various charities. Have a look! Good luck:)

What do you mean by that?? Nobody has said it would be a mean average accross the year! £36 p/h is the ote and no not every one will achieve that but a good sales rep should aim to achieve this i know because i have done this.
You dont know anything about the vacancy so you can not just say things like that.

not all OTE is commission based work Helen, BUT the job by Shefuser sounds like a commission based role. A cobra group style role, which I have done myself in the past.
snoopjiggy 23-05-2011, 12:13 Have you tried contacting places like Ventura? They are a great place to start and get the relevant experience. Insight also. They are call centres that generally have alot of vacancies.
Brian Hanson 31-05-2011, 14:41 I help direct a not-for-profit company and we advertise Voluntary Vacancies quite regular via Voluntary Action Sheffield, or you can contact us direct for details of how to obtain a Volunteer Application Form; www.escadon.co.uk
Smithy1889 01-06-2011, 15:57 its all call centre work or kleeneze in sheffield at moment, iv never known it as bad as this, nobody is setting on.
Helen Ellie 02-06-2011, 15:12 Beginning to think the same, ended up applying for a job recently at Excelsior, to find out it was another door to door sales company, I really wouldn't mind a call centre job, but door to door sales has never interested me .....
SportsTrophy 02-06-2011, 20:27 Business Admin is very different to sales so i would keep looking. The only problem is that admins aren't necessary until a manager cant handle the sales reps paperwork. So where you do see sales reps wanted then write in to let them know you can help manage the sales force.
This God like position is probably one of the most important and most unrewarded in any company. I'm so glad that the women who usually take up these positions are like rock and treat it like a dogs for life.
I am so sick of companies looking for people who must have experience and qualifications to do a job. Someone gave them a chance once. Good luck !!
