Besides the obvious turkey and stuffing what seasonal foods are you eating at the moment?

What I'm eating...
-Parsnips (roasted in goose fat)
-Brussels sprouts
-Sage (the perfect winter herb)
-Pheasant
-Clementines
-Scotch Broth

What I'm drinking...
-Sicilian Ruby Red Orange juice (though I suspect it's not seasonal)
-Dancy Tangerine juice

What are you eating a lot of? What are your winter favourites?

I made some mince pies yesterday. Made them with an all butter pastry and filled them with M&S Connoisseur mincemeat [almonds, apricots, steeped in Courvoisier]. Warmed for 8-10 minutes in the oven and served with a lovely cup of single estate Ceylon tea - there is nothing better!

anyone got any decent mincemeat recipes?? I think I'm going to make my own next year and try to master the pastry too. This year I have cheated and used just add water pastry and Robertsons mincemeat...it was a last minute thing :help:

Potato & parsnip gratin (saw it on TV a couple of weeks ago and I'm now adicted to it)

Big mushrooms stuffed with Roquefort and herb breadcrumbs

Cranberry juice - again quite addictive

Meatballs - in tomato sauce

Steak Diane - until the end flew of my tenderising hammer :(

Anyone got any ideas what I can do with rosemary, I've got loads of it in the garden ?

You could:

-Roast some potatoes with it and garlic.
-Roast a chicken with lemon and rosemary.
-Add a touch of it to a garlic mayonnaise... go on try it!
-Put it in a lamb stew
-Put some stems of it in a bottle of olive oil

That enough ideas?

It's a good start, I only planted the rosemary because someone gave me a cutting, and it's grown into a huge bush, but I've never actually used it in anything, all the other herbs get stripped bare as soon as they grow.

It's a wonderful herb Nick and because of it's strong stem it can be used to 'stud' a piece of meat. I even saw Jamie Oliver use it to seal the end of a stuffed pouisson yesterday - almost like a skewer.

Come on people.... what else are you all eating?

Let's give a big hand for a jar of pickled walnuts - go great with cold meat or veggie alaternatives - look dreadful but will appeal to goths (er that's because they are black)
