View Full Version : Music in the Gardens 2011 - June 29th-2nd July
Hello everyone!
Tickets for this year's MITG are on sale now at musicinthegardens.co.uk and at Sheffield Box Office. We have a fantastic line-up this year with the Keith Peters Big Band, Paul Carrack, Courtney Pine and the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra headlining from June 29th-2nd July. The Sheffield University Big Band, Dizzy Club, Omar Puente and the Dodworth Colliery Brass Band support... so you’re in for a treat whoever is playing.
We are having two theme evenings as well! The Wednesday night is a Big Band 40's revival party and there will be prizes for the best dressed couple as well as a Spitfire fly-over at some point in the evening. The Saturday night is a Last Night of the Proms affair and we invite everyone to bring any leftover regalia and patriotism from the Royal Wedding and come and sing your hearts out... We're going to have a guest tenor leading the songs too. So bring your flags and your top hats and your best singing voices to that one!
Don’t forget that this is all for charity folks. Our chosen causes this year are Help For Heroes, Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Shelterbox, and every penny of the proceeds goes to help someone in need.
There is lots of information on the website but if you want to ask anything you can post here and we will do our best to get back to you and answer any queries. We look forward to seeing you there!
pixietrix 20-05-2011, 09:34 hi i was just wondering... is it still bring your own food? last year me and my family brought a picnic and some bubbly along and i just wondered if we could still do that?
thanks in advance
Hi Pixietrix
You can indeed bring your own food again this year. Our 'bring your own eats, drinks and treats' policy is still in place but we will have stalls set up selling food and a bar on site too for those of you who just like to grab a sandwich whilst you're there.
OldMotherMac 20-05-2011, 09:51 Looks fantastic - I will round up the family and bring them along.
Excellent. Dont forget that kids under 12 go free too, as long as they are accompanied by a full paying adult. We are definitly a family event!
Hello everyone
Just a note to say tickets are selling really well and if you want yours you'd better get them sooner rather than later!
You can get them online at www.musicinthegardens.co.uk or from Sheffield Box Office.
We kick off on Wednesday June 29th with our 40's Revival Big Band Party... so come along and get involved. Charity work has never been so easy!
runrunrun 11-06-2011, 16:45 Can't wait for this! My brother and me (otherwise known as Low Duo) are opening the Friday night gig with Courtney Pine and Omar Puente.
We're from Sheffield and were recently The Guardian's "new band of the day". Oh and listen out for us on Tom Robinson's 6Music show next weekend when we'll be recording an interview and live session.
Have a listen to us on Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/lowduo) or Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/lowduo) or we got a little online music shop here (http://lowduo.co.uk).
We're on as soon as gates open so please get there early! :)
Milky Joe 27-06-2011, 10:12 We've got tickets for Friday. What's the deal with regards to seating?
I've seen pics on the website and everyone seems to be sat in those fold up camping chairs, which we don't have.
Do people stand? Is there any seating provided at all, or is it going to be a 'bums on grass' evening?
Hi Milky Joe
Glad to hear you are coming along to the show!
In answer to you question; we do not provide seating for the shows. Seating is left entirely up to the ticket holder... you can bring fold up chairs, garden chairs, blankets or you can stand up or just sit on the grass. It is entirely up to you.
Most people do tend to just bring picnic blankets or camping chairs to sit on, and as long as what you bring doesn't obstruct the view of others, like a gazebo or a tent or something, you are welcome to bring anything you like to make yourself comfortable.
Milky Joe 27-06-2011, 10:52 Thanks for the quick reply Amy.
I'll leave the inflatable lazy-boy at home then :)
Unfortunately I have visions of us sitting on picnic blankets and only being able to see the back of peoples garden chairs.
Well, Joe, there is always a risk of being stuck behind the tall guy, just like at any other festival, but the space in front of the stage is on a slight slope and the stage is elevated so there isn't usually a problem.
Plus, if worse comes to the worst the space in front of the stage is huge, so you can always shuffle along and find a spot where you can see. I can honestly say we have never had any complaints from people who haven’t been able to see before because, like I say, there is plenty of room for everyone to get a good view.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to come along as early as possible and claim your place up front as soon as you can if you are worried about it.
Hope this helps!
****************NEWS UPDATE*******************
Tickets sales this last weekend went through the roof and they are nearly all gone. In response we have released an extra 500 tickets for each night in the hope that everyone who wants a ticket will get one!
Sales on the website and from the City Hall have ceased today (Monday 27th) and the extra 500 tickets can now only be purchased from the Botanical Gardens Shop, and on the gate on the night.
Those who want tickets are reminded that tickets from the Botanical Gardens Shop and on the gate can be bought with cash only, and that children under twelve go free.
We cannot guarantee that there will be tickets left to sell on the gate however, particularly for Thursday and Friday, and encourage everyone who wants a ticket to get them from the Botanical Gardens Shop in advance to avoid disappointment.
Tickets for Wednesday and Saturday are £8 in advance, whilst Thursday’s and Friday’s tickets are priced at £14 in advance. Prices for ‘on the door’ sales will be higher... If indeed there are any left on the night.
You can still get extra information and news from the website at www.musicinthegardens.co.uk
pixietrix 28-06-2011, 09:02 Thanks for the update! I went down to the Botanical Gardens shop yesterday and got a couple more tickets for my friends.
I can't wait for it!
