View Full Version : Sheffield Hatters Women's Basketball chat/info
:)
I don`t mean to annoy the men out there but I have been to watch the Hatters Womens Basketball team and they are fab in fact there is a supporters web site with an interactive message board all about basketball have a look address is
www.sheffield-hatters-supporters.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/home.htm
Worth a look for another sport Sheffield is good at in fact leading at.
Why should that annoy the men, I have seen the Hatters a couple of times now and they are great. I have seen them miss out in the cup twice now to Rhondda.
Men dont stop watching Anne Kournikova (tennis)just because she is a woman, any good sportsfans respect the acheivements of the athlete regardless of sex
What's the greatest sporting achievement in the last year regardless of sex??????
Answer IMO - Paula Radcliffe knocking 3 mins off the Marathon World Record.
Sorry I did not mean to offend anyone but most men I know talk about Football and very liitle else when the football season is on.
I am going to the play off finals between Rhondda and Hatters and it`s going to be so good.
They are the best womens basketball side in the country its just a pitty the conference this year has been a bit poor in opponents.
The one thing that does annoy me is the fact Sheffield council does not recognise the Hatters and help them with playing in Eurpoe, the Welsh council helps Rhondda.
:D
In the links page you can`t get on to the supporters site unless you have the full web address which I have given as on the links page /home.htm is missing.
Yes, I posted that link but it seems that the web address is too long for the number of character that you are allowed to have for a link address and it's not all fit on.
:D :D :D :D :D
You missed a fantastic game yesterday in the final. Hatters looked like they had lost it when in the last quarter they stormed back and won 62-56 to take the play off championship again.
The tv cameras only came to film the big men`s game but they again missed a fantastic chance to see Womens Basketball be just as good as men`s.
It`s a pity the town of Sheffield AND ESPECIALLY THE COUNCIL does not get behind the Hatters and sponsor them to play in Europe next season as they have won more silver than any Sheffield team especially SHARKS, WEDNESDAY,UNITED to name but a few. It`s about Sheffield and England watched Womens Basketball they have no idea how much they are missing out on.
WELL DONE SHEFFIELD HATTERS FOR WINNING YOUR 2ND TROPHY OF THE SEASON.

One of the major problems which Hatters have is the fact they, like Sheffield Eagles( I am biased !! as Hatters know!), are NOT football and thus do not get the amount of coverage they are entitled to.
Both my daughters played for the Hatters and I was statsman for the junior teams and many times for the senior team at home matches. Trying to get recognition by certain members of the press was like "beating your head against a brick wall". I know Betty ( Cadona) got and still gets frustrated at the lack of local support and especially from the local council [for example Ponds Forge tried to charge the AMATEUR club £800 a match to play there. What is that saying for The City of Sport?]
Hatters have won over 30 trophies in recent years, won an award for being the most successful sporting club -male of female - amateur or pro - in England, YET they get nothing in terms of financial support from the City Council, and struggle to get sponsorship of anykind.
I believe that they deserve more, should get the support to play in Europe and most of their finances have to come from fund raising.
I do believe that they need to get a press-officer in place [someone who can send emails and can use a phone with a bit of time each week] to completely saturate ALL MEDIA, RADIO (loads of local stations), PRESS (not just the Star - plenty of local papers), YTV, Look North etc. and get their games publisized, promoted and reported. One email to all these a couple of times a week MAY start to improve coverage.

Betty Cadona was a teacher @ Firth Park School and the girls team were treated alot better then us lads who played Basketball :x

Give my regards to Neil Lovell
Well I must say I saw no one from this site and I can also say what a fantastic game of basketball you missed 65-62 to the Hatters.
It was full of speed, many incidents, fantastic stamina and determination by both teams.
You who did not go missed an opportunity.
Wednesday and United football fans I am sure you did not see the skill that the Hatters team had today at your football game.
Sheffield should get behind this team because they could come back with a cup and remember Sheffield don`t get very many trophies. But the Haters have at least one every year for the past 10 years. Which other sheffield team can match that.
Well we have done it again.
Hatters have been to the play off championship for 13 years in a row and won today to make it 3 in a row, we beat Rhondda with good fair basketball and it was so GOOD.
Its a pitty Hatters won`t get the recognition they deserve.
Rhondda were unbeaten this season and they had got two trophies under their belt. We had not beat them since the play off`s last year and today we showed what a good Sheffield team is made of.
WELL DONE HATTERS, YOUR SIMPLY THE BEST.
Sharks won their play off championship beating chester jets.
Lets hope the Hatters have a good season. They have their first home game on the 25th of September at the EIS in Sheffield.
Tip-off time 4pm.
Don`t miss coming to watch these women play a fast but exciting game of basketball and support the top womens basketball team in the country.

All at EIS.
Both senior teams won today.
PaulTansley 26-09-2004, 18:02 I've seen the Manchester team training at the Velodrome on a couple of accations.
Although to me basket ball is worse than watching paint dry, they looked quite proffessional.
You must have seen the men play basketball for it to seem like paint drying because you have obviously not seen the Hatters play.
We won Manchester 63-27.
Sheffield Hatters the best womens Basketball team in the country are playing at home on 27th of November.
They will be playing their biggest rivals and their most major competition the Rhondda Rebels. (they live in a world where they think they are better than us)
I want you to come and support the Hatters in what will be a fantastic game of Basketball.
27th of November £ 2 adults £1 if you are a student. Starts at 6pm. Where else can you watch a game for a small amount of money that lasts 2 hours and its at the E.I.S.
Don`t let Rhondda have more supporters than us they always bring about 60+ to Sheffield so come on lets show them just what the people of Sheffield can shout like.
Just to update you all, for the same price£2 adults and £1 child or student you can now watch 3 games as we have a triple header on that day, we have a Junior or cadet game, division 2 will play Nottingham Wildcats 2 and Division 1 will play Rhondda.
Where else can you watch 6 hours of top-class sport for that amount of money.
Come on then, lets show these girls/ladies just what support we can give them this Saturday 27th November at the EIS.

I promise you won`t be boared you will have fun.
Timings have changed U16`s cup game is now at 12 noon ans at 2pm our U20`s are playing a Scottish select in a friendly.
Other 2 games are still on at 4pm and the big game at 6pm.
For all those of you that might be intrested you missed a fantastic game.
We had 170 watch the game, that eventually went into extra time. The Hatters lost 73-85 and that was down to extremly bad refrees especially Richard S. You know who you are, I am not surprised you made a quick exit, you should have stopped and answered your cricits.
This man is supposed to be the best ref on the womens basketball circuit. He is terrible, not even the men`s team coach for the game after could believe the decisions he made.
On the Sunday we gained a place in the National finals again and we will seek revenge for Saturday against the Rhondda team. Lets hope Richard that ref is not officiating at the finals.

Maybe it should be
"A Bad Sport(wo)man Always Blames The Ref"?
thats a bit hard for you to have a say if you never saw the game.
Don`t critise if you never saw it happen.
Or where you there ?
Sheffield Hatters have a very important game this coming Saturday 16th April at English Institute of Sport.
Its the semi-final of the play-off Championship`s and it`s against Nottingham Wildcats.
It will be a hard fought game as we have lost to Nottingham in the semi`s two years ago and we have injuries at the moment.
Tip-off time is 6pm and they need your support if you are intrested in Womens basketball.
