View Full Version : Two Jags.....sorry to get serious but... shoeshine 18-12-2005, 10:43 Two Jags...3 homes....No Council Tax to pay on any of them according to today's Sunday Times max 18-12-2005, 11:11 Yet again someone has failed to read to the bottom of the article: "He has a flat in Westminster and a home in Scotland on which the taxes are paid in the normal way," he said. Prescott also has the use of Dorneywood. The council tax for the mansion is paid by the trust that looks after the home. Under the system for parliamentary allowances, Prescott is entitled to claim back expenses — including the council tax — on his home in Hull provided it is not his main residence. So he lives in a flat in Westminster for which he pays council tax, has a house in Scotland for which he pays council tax, doesn't live in his house in Hull so claims back the tax, doesn't pay tax on 11 Downing Street as he doesn't live there. Your point is? shoeshine 18-12-2005, 11:28 Max, I think you are quoting selectively, perhaps. Sorry, I have tried to add an appropriate link to this post and having failed twice......I obviously need more practice doing this. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1938215_1,00.html Greybeard 18-12-2005, 11:34 I think this (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1938215,00.html) is the link you're talking about. ;) And the unanswered question is does he reclaim what council tax he does pay as expenses ?? shoeshine 18-12-2005, 11:37 Thanks Greybeard.... managed to sort it now...appreciate your assistance. I agree with Max that it is worth reading the article in full....food for thought Greybeard 18-12-2005, 11:43 Originally posted by shoeshine Thanks Greybeard.... managed to sort it now...appreciate your assistance. I agree with Max that it is worth reading the article in full....food for thought I wouldn't have thought John Prescott is any worse than others of his ilk in cashing in on his position. Unlike most of his ministerial colleagues he has a working class background and is therefore a prime target of the middle class press. shoeshine 18-12-2005, 12:46 I wouldn't have thought John Prescott is any worse than others of his ilk in cashing in on his position. I reckon it's been going on since the first ever MP was elected. Funny that Gordon Brown made proposals that 2nd homes, rare wines etc could be incorporated into a new "Sipps" Pension Scheme..... which won't affect me by the way:) Mr. Brown seems to have changed his mind in the Chancellor's Statement a week or two ago, and "Sipps" seem to be dead in the water now (but I don't care) |
