HI all,

I'm trying to fix my parents monitor settings, since doing a reformat a few weeks ago their tft monitor jogs when scrolling down a page, rather than the smooth scrolling they used to get.

Looking at the video card details in Device manager shows it has no drivers installed, I can't find a disc so I need to find out what make their video card is so I can download the newist drivers for the card.

If anyone can hlpe it would be great, I need to know how to get into DOS I believe and see what card model is....

And if you happen to know anything about fixing this type of problem any help is appreciated.

Also, the DVD player won't work when trying to watch DVD's, were getting error message ' Power DVD Doesn't support Dislay mode, D Draw overlay mode is recommended Please lower screen resolution and colour depth'

I'm assuming this is related to the video card drivers issue.

Please :help:

Thankies :)

once you've done a windows update,, this should cure yer probs......... other than that, physically take out the card and look at the model number etc on it,, type this in googs and it should bring up tones of stuff about yer card....

Cheers for that donks, but I remember a while back just going into Dos and typing somthing, and it brings up all the details about your graphics card on screen,

I believe we've already updated all the service packs microsoft has to offer....

theres various little programs you can get

such as pci list, dimm id, souncard detector, advisor etc

they tell you details about stuff inside your puter
not sure about a graphic card only one

if you type dxdiag into the run box in the start menu, under display, that may give you a clue

I've done the dxdiag, and it's not showing the graphics card at all, just says that

'The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer'

I've got into the C prompt and ran a debug and it's telling me it's a NV, I assume it's Nvidia, but it's not telling me anything more really.

When I play a cd with a video on it, that uses Quicktime say, it plays no problem, it's just when trying to watch a dvd

just digging around in my dos for dummies books and come across the following

for dos 6 you can type C> MSD which will open the microsoft diagnostics program, and look for the video section which will tell you what type it is

i found these two dos for dummies/more dos for dummies books in a charity shop 99p each, bought em to help pass my cisco exam i did :P

MSd isn't a recognised command...so I guess it's not DOs 6 :(

I've gone into Power DVD settings and made it so that it runs in 256 bit colour mode, but i'm still getting the same error message, even after restarting the pc.

I know i've typed somthing like MSD in the C prompt before and it's brought me a list up of all the gizmoids in my pc...I can't remember what it was!

Thanks again...any more?

Thanks everyone for your help it's sorted now.

For anyone else who's searched and needing help witht his, this is what I did:

How to identify the brand and model of your graphics card

Some of the utility programs need sometimes need some information of your graphics card. You'll need to do this typically when debugging problems or when you are looking for updated video drivers. An alternative option is to look carefully at the labelling on the video card and its components, but the advantage of this procedure is that it can be performed without the need to open up the system case. Use the following procedure steps:

* Get to an MS-DOS Prompt
* Enter the "DEBUG" Program (type "debug" and then press enter)
* Type the following, exactly to the debug prompt:

d c000:0010

* Now you will see the contents of the beginning part of the video BIOS ROM on the screen in hexadecimal and ascii formats. For most video cards, you will see the name of the manufacturer and information about the video chipset type and version number.
* n some systems you may need to scroll down further to find the information. Do this by typing just "d" and then {Enter}, one or more times. More information will display on the screen.
* Exit "DEBUG" by pressing "q" and then Enter to quit the debug program.

I had to to the D thing three times then it showed me what card I was using, then i've downloaded the newest drivers, and i'm now making my parents watch Freddy Got Fingered as Payment :heyhey:

Thanks again :)

DOS doesn't really work in XP all that well, to run DOS apps under XP, you need to download something DOSBox (Google for it).

or use a bootup disc and boot into dos like normal
