most of them dont know what theyer talking about, I LOVE going into PC shops and acting dumb (only works once, maybe twice tho) and seeing what they try and sell me, and at what price etc... see what 'lies' they tell or how they bend the truth...

Every One I have been in, in Sheffield have lied or bent the truth to try and convince me that such a thing does this or that, or such a thing is better than another etc...

Its really funny :)

but Crown are 'Ok' - tho they change staff so often, most dont know wtf theyer doing...

NetComp seem my current favourite at the moment, Direct Computer just try to rip you off, GemSoft was too expensive..

the 2 up at hillsbrough, one of them is expensive, the other bends the truth ALOT to try get you to buy things (the cheaper/not as good things)

Newgen are ok too. they do bend the truth quite a bit (or did last time i checked them out) and they are a little over priced for some things..

so all in all, i'd say they are all about the same standard, Just go with whichever you feel most comforatable with..

SCS (Sheffield Computer Servies) on Taplin Road in Hillsborough are ok.

They didn't 'bent the truth' when i've used them, they were actually very helpful, and found some information out for me that they couldn't tell me on the phone when I first contacted them :D

There prices are ok, and they've got a good range of equipment. I'd recommend a visit for sure

I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but I actually prefer the likes of PC World to small backstreet computer shops.. Granted they never know WTF they're on about with regard to computers, and a lot of their products are over-priced and all that malarkey but at least you know PC World et al are still going to be open next week and not go bust/run off with your money like this bunch of arse jockeys from up Walkley who sold me my first Pentium PC back in 1993 did....

Can't remember the name of the shop but it was on Commonside on a corner just down the road from the Hadfield pub.

yeah but nobody knows for certain if pc world is going to be around in a years time either.

you could say that about any business, no matter how big or small they are

Look all you need to be is a woman looking for a computer and they think they see you coming. There are NO good computer shops anywhere and Trading Standards spend too much time on car boot sales rather than investigating these IT shops which are all cowboys.

I bet people who bought PCs from Tiny thought that too.

I do remember that shop it was just down from Bean Beanies and they were the most obvious bunch of crooks going. Went in there myself to look for a computer, didnt like the look of them, walked out and never walked back in again. Wouldnt surprise me if they had actually been busted for pirated software.

the computer shop on Little Britain, had a horse doing tech support (2nd line) - reminded me of a lot of those mentioned in this thread - except PCW - they were donkeys in yellow t-shirts :)

I agree, there should be better regulation of computer shops, but to tar us all with the same brush and say there are no good computer shops is, in my opinion, a totally unwarranted claim. Have you been in ALL the shops in Sheffield? I know of a few I certainly wouldn't recommend, but there are plenty of us out there who would not rip you off or pull the wool over your eyes, whether you are a woman or not.

I would therefore like to invite a woman from trading standards to come and visit us at Very PC. I think we are probably the expensive one discribed above. Our prices are maybe a little more than others. This is because we avoid using cheap bits and have rules which we impose upon ourselves saying what we will and wont put in a PC.
We're also honest and try our very best to provide the very best quality of customer service.
Quite simply we are the best. We are Very PC.
