OK, so I'm gutted, just been to the dentist cos i broke my crown and they cant just repair it, they have to fit another type of crown instead, and its gonna cost me £204!!

I kept the bloody crown as well thinking it would just sort of be cemented back on but apparently not!

Anyone had a crown repaired before?

I just want a second opinion as to whether it can be repaired!

Both of my front teeth were crowned many years ago as a result of a childhood accident.
About 25 years ago both crowns were renewed....including the posts. Then about 5 years ago one of them dropped out and was stuck back in by a private dentist at a cost of about £50+!
No new post or anything........literally just stuck back in with cement or something. Over time that tooth started slipping down and became longer than the other one and was noticable and embarrassing.

Anyhow, only a few weeks ago the dentist declared that my crowns had come to the end of their lives and there was no way could new ones be fitted.......something to do with the gum and everything involved in replacing crowns and posts. I didn't fully understand why they couldn't just make new teeth and stick them back onto the original posts but I supposed they knew what they were doing. I only really needed the one sorting out but they said the other one would go the same way in a short time so I may as well have the problem sorted all in one go. Less expense as well.

I could have had implants at a cost of £1400 each because they aren't covered on the NHS. No way was I going to go through that process never mind the expense that I couldn't afford anyhow.......so the only option was a small pallette with two new teefies attached. I'm slowly getting used to it now but they do look a whole load better then my old crowns did.

As for your cost......thats the maximum that the NHS can charge for treatment. I suppose that you are able to have a new crown fitted so thats what they'll do. I would imagine that you will also be having a new post for the crown to fix to.
That sort of work on the NHS will attract the maximum fee but if you aren't totally happy with what you've been told then ask them why they can't just stick your old crown back.

Edited to add.......that fee will also include a check up, any fillings or other work and scale and polish etc.
