Hi there SF peeps

A guy has just fallen down my stairs and incurred a bad head injury. There's lots of blood. He's gone off in an ambulance and is ok.

Lots of blood on carpet though.

How do I get rid of it as not wanting lots of blood on my carpet.

Bit shaken, sorry if this not the best post ever.

Thanks, Chicken Monkey x

Hi, try and get it out as quickly as possible as it will definitely stain bad if dries on. Dont know what exactly you should use on it but im pretty sure your meant to use cold/cool water for getting blood out not warm/hot. Good luck!

I know it's daft worrying about me carpet, but my bloke is abslutely sick at the sight of blood and now looks a weird shade of green and can't go in the dining room.

The dude who fell down the stairs is ok I think. He now knows what day it is a least (well he's knows its December anyhoo).

Thanks for the tips peeps.

Sounds like you're trying to dispose of the evidence..... :)

Keep the water cold - blood coagulates with heat and that will make it just about impossible to get out.

There are some specialist stain removers for removing blood - did they used to be called 'Stain Devils' or something?

Anyway....blot what's there with kitchen towel, then cold water, blot again, and repeat. Some people suggest salt or washing up liquid. Hydrogen peroxide or weak bleach also gets a mention, but TAKE CARE with colours!!!! A solution of biological washing powder might work. Just keep the water cold and keep changing it. It'll take time, though.

In extremis, if you have any carpet left you might end up cutting out the stained area and replace with a cut square of carpet - only works, though, if you're VERY careful and the carpet's not too old and worn - and if it's not in an obvious place. :(

chickmonk, tell your bloke as long as the blood is not his he will be fine:)

Re the carpet keep the blood moist and soak up with a cloth using cold water until the stain has gone.

If the blood has dried out, more advice on Google Search...just input "cleaning blood off carpet"

ps expect an Inspector Clouseau to come round to inspect any remaining stains!!!

Aw, come on!

You've got us all worried.

Was this guy an intruder or something? Or just a mate who's had a few too many?

Sprinkle with a small amount of salt then put on COLD water, sponge up with paper towels and add more cold water till the stain has gone.

By the way, how the injured party?
Hope he's ok.

All is well. Injured party is being kept in for observation and now knows what day it is so this is good.

I have had some beer now so feel better.

Will also try the salt thing!

At moment, carpet is pink...

Do you know anyone who hasa vaccuum that shampoos?

I will ask friends of ours online (mum's in bed) who have unspayed bitches because every 6 months we (and they) have this too with our dogs coming into season.

I'm sure mum said when she had bitches she used to use the shampoo vaccuum thingy, but I'll ask others (I haven't had the pleasure yet with puppy being only 5 months)

Good luck! Be back in a mo hopefully (depends if anyone is online)

Only answer I got from a friend was dab the area with a cold wet cloth until the blood disappears, and then soak up any moisture with a dry towel!

Sorry to be of no more help! It's going to be a loooong night!

Pour salt on to the fresh blood stain ~ it draws the blood out of the carpet ~ vacuum it up, and then use a good stain remover, such as Vanish.

Saw this done on a white deep pile carpet once, after someone was bleeding profusely after an accident at a party, and it worked brilliantly. I've used salt on blood on clothes as well, and that seems to work.

Not an intruder, friend of a friend who I don't know personally. Yes he'd had a few too many! He's ok now.

Thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately, having left it last night (worn out!) I think the stain's now dried in (makes me want to vom every time I look at it... :gag: ).

So - I've covered it with a rug :)

Thanks again for helping me out in my moment of need. It was a scary moment and it was good to be able to talk to people - even if only about the carpet :loopy: (think I lost it a bit there...)
