Dont !! You dont "pop" boils. They are lanced at the doctors. Are you sure it is a boil? There is a walk in centre at the Hallamshire Hospital for minor things like that.He may have to take antibiotics afterwards. uncleheed 15-12-2005, 20:16 Hold a knitting needle over the gas and when it goes red,(the needle that is),stick it through the boil. Be warned. It may sting a bit !! fruit&nut 15-12-2005, 20:19 Hold a knitting needle over the gas and when it goes red,(the needle that is),stick it through the boil. omg!!!!!!!!!get to the doctors dont mess with that,an infection could make it alot worse, bigflesh 15-12-2005, 20:28 Bathe the area in salty warm water for a few nights i order to bring the head to the surface. Only pop it when its ready - e.g. the skin will be thin and stretched. You'll know when its ready for popping (if it doesnt itself). Only pop when ready though as it may reform if forced prematurley. Disclaimer - you should be able to pop it in your fingers... make sure you keep the area clean - along with your fingers... as you head may drop off. uncleheed 15-12-2005, 20:32 DISCLAIMER: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. IT WAS A JOKE! Originally posted by uncleheed Hold a knitting needle over the gas and when it goes red,(the needle that is),stick it through the boil. Be warned. It may sting a bit !! It may only be a 'blind' boil. No head may ever form prioryx 15-12-2005, 20:41 It used to be that you heated a milk bootle and when it was hot placed the open kneck of the bottle on the boil. The bootle cooling down drew out the puss. PS. it hurts like hell prioryx 15-12-2005, 20:43 that should be bottle. imagine how it would hurt if you dropped Bootle on it. lol the_rudeboy 15-12-2005, 20:51 Originally posted by prioryx It used to be that you heated a milk bootle and when it was hot placed the open kneck of the bottle on the boil. I'd give that a bit of a swerve then!! :heyhey: cgksheff 15-12-2005, 21:00 Just wait till I get my piece of bread!!!!:D:gag: Hecate 15-12-2005, 21:10 Get some magnesium sulphate paste ('drawing ointment') from the chemist. It will bring the boil to a head. Use lots of antiseptic when the pus has been removed (don't poke at it; it will pop when it's ready). Cover with gauze until healed. Greybeard 15-12-2005, 21:17 I'd let a professional deal with it, - their services are free so why take any risk ? Yellowrose 15-12-2005, 21:24 Ive used hot poultices made by using a facecloth soaked in hot water with a few drops of lavender or tea tree oil. Hold against the boil for as long as you can stand, keep refreshing the cloth in the hot water, eventually it will burst. Squeeze out all the nasty stuff until it starts to bleed then dab with antiseptic or tea tree. Make sure you boil wash the facecloth to kill the germs when youve used it - you dont want another! PS if the doc does anything they will probably give antibiotics. We dont all want to take these for a simple skin infection, thats why I would treat my own. Yellowrose 15-12-2005, 21:27 Just noticed you said it was on the neck. Is it a trapped hair follicle? My partner gets these around the neck in the beard area where he shaves. If this is the case, I usually pluck the trapped hair out. Shrink that boil (or spot) right up  Johnh 16-12-2005, 13:49 Have all the hospitals shut in South Yorkshire ... you're all crazy!!! commuter 16-12-2005, 13:53 didn't the Sheffield hospitals just get voted the best in the country? I'd give them a go if I were you. Mind you lucky it wasn't on the end of your nose with the party season coming up :hihi: oldrowley 16-12-2005, 14:58 Correct me if I'm wrong, but used there not to be professional Boil Suckers, much like Sin Eaters. Try Yellow Pages! utah 16-12-2005, 21:29 Originally posted by prioryx that should be bottle. imagine how it would hurt if you dropped Bootle on it. lol :D that made me chuckle, thanks xx Try epsom salts in boiling water, keep bathing as hot as possible and it will come to a head, then you get to do the fun squeezy bit :gag: Yellowrose 16-12-2005, 21:58 Hows it doing jaynie? Has it gone yet? Did any of the remedies work? jaynie38 17-12-2005, 18:58 I have had so much fun reading these replies, that I havent got round to telling him yet, anyway we will get on with it tonight, the BOOTLE might be the best option though, this will hurt the least LOL:D No seriously, he didnt want to faff about going to the Hallamshire, and didnt really think it was a worthy cause, so wanted to have a go himself. Anyway if his head does fall off, he wont be able to go on Christmas do next Thursday :hihi: jaynie38 17-12-2005, 20:10 re previous, I meant to say will hurt the MOST:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: rothschild 18-12-2005, 00:48 Use a kaolin poultice.........is that the same as magnesium sulphate paste? Put it on as hot as you can bare. Never squeeze........you can force the puss back in by doing this. You should pull the skin away on either side until it pops. Ooooooo........just imagine the satisfaction of doing this.......but beware......these things can fling their yellowy mass for miles so make sure you have your swimming goggles on so it doesn't hit you in the eyeballs. Oh.......you will probably have to use the poutice's for a while until the big red boil has softened up and is ready for popping. You will be able to easily see the yellow head when it is ready. Also......these things can take quite a while to reach maturity......so be prepared to wait. lol. artisan 18-12-2005, 11:49 I wance knew a bloke with a nasty growth on his neck. It was called his head :heyhey: :hihi: Siān 18-12-2005, 12:05 I had a boil (3 years ago, just before I moved here) I left it initially thinking it'd sort itself out. In the end it infected the whole area & hurt like hell so I went to my GP & was told to go away for a few days & apply a poultice to it (& make it as hot as I could bear & apply it as often as possible) to draw the puss out & create a head. 4 or 5 days alter I went back to the surgery (my GP at the time was able to perform small ops under local anaesthetic at the surgery - believe me you will NEED anaesthetic) & had it lanced. Forget pulling the skin away (although rothschild's descripton is pretty accurate) it needed to be cut with a scalpel. Puss flying the length & breadth of the room is about right - it smells to high heaven as well as being messy :) Even with regular dressing & a course of antibiotics I still had a flare up about 6 weeks later. So personally I'd not recommend trying to sort this out yourself at home :gag: Godzilla 18-12-2005, 12:33 My mother used to swear by a poultice of soft soap and sugar left on overnight. pdrnsf 18-12-2005, 13:33 How do you know if its a boil? and not just a big spot? miniminch 18-12-2005, 13:41 Originally posted by jaynie38 Hi all, know this sounds really gross, but my partner has a big red boil on his neck and wants to pop it (yuk) whats the safest way to do this at home??? just get a new partner! ;) redruby 18-12-2005, 16:06 A friend of mine got rid of a boil by sticking a darning needle in the gas flame on the cooker then dipping the needle in TCP before sticking it into the boil slowly and then squeezing it. Bit painful but it worked  pitsmoorboy 18-12-2005, 17:48 Get a piece of string, tie one end round the boil and the other round the door knob. You know the rest. :D :D:D ashton200 07-07-2011, 11:32 I don't think that you can remove it safely at home. You just have to wait until your organism get rid of it naturally bladesman123 07-07-2011, 12:03 Try putting a leech on it perplexed 07-07-2011, 15:14 I'd have thought it's been dealt with by now... Either that or the boil is in primary school, being 6 years old...:D |
