So I assume that you are still living at home, then? JoeP 15-12-2005, 21:39 Originally posted by newusername emergency like real life stuff. e.g broken window, failed boiler, etc, how do you manage When you're deep in debt you tend to hope for the best, keep your fingers crossed and prioritise stuff ruthlessly. If it's food or bus fares, you eat and walk. If it's a broken window, how badly does it need to be fixed? Can it wait? If the boiler fails, you manage without and make do with other forms of heating. The priority is to keep a roof over your head, keep your family healthy, fed, watered and warm and finally look after yourself. Surprisingly enough, when I was really skint I became much healthier - couldn't eat junk, drink or go out a lot! Do you rent, buy or live with family? Most people can manage on very little money, relativey speaking, until they have to run their own home. Then the fun starts! :) Joe newusername 15-12-2005, 22:49 i do live with family, but chip in with bills and stuff, average outgoings £15 bus ticket, about £5 food, thats a steady week but then theres other stuff like buying clothes going out etc. robbie 15-12-2005, 22:56 Originally posted by newusername so u seriously dont have money saved up for emergency's? nope, not a bean newusername 15-12-2005, 23:02 man i was unemployed for over a year, though livin wit family i cut my budget to less that £5 a week. cant remember what relivance this is. bombardier 15-12-2005, 23:12 I’ve never had much money. but never been in debt cos I don’t do credit...I wait till I have got the dosh then look hard and long before i part with my hard earned cash....I just couldn’t stand the stress of thinking I was lining some rich money leaching shiny arsed no good crooks pockets while I work my backside off and he sits drinking champagne soaking up the interest newusername 15-12-2005, 23:30 yep sadly thats wat happens these days, but wat u gonna do? redrobbo 15-12-2005, 23:52 Originally posted by JoeP Most people can manage on very little money, relatively speaking..... Spot on Joe. I was earning approx £40k a year, own home, car, holidays. After sudden and unexpected illness struck me, nearly 4 years ago now, I went on sick leave - only never able to return to work. I now manage on about a quarter of my former income, and you adjust to your changed circumstances. So, the car was sold, and I now catch the bus (or walk). Dropping into the local most Mondays nights with friends ceased. I've still got my own home (low mortgage) and I still go on holiday (it's just that I now go to Snowdonia mainly out of season - when it's cheaper!). nick2 16-12-2005, 08:06 Originally posted by robbie I live in my overdraft. have done for 10 years same here, I'v stopped worrying about it now. |
