Well you've heard everything ! Everywhere but Ecclesall is a hell hole to you. I imagine you dont even know where Woodhouse is.... Sally 29-02-2004, 08:35 PM I live quite close to Woodhouse and there is some old and beautiful property there also new developments too. The village has pubs, plenty of shops and regular bus services. There are some excellent junior schools and nurserys in the area and it's close to M1, Crystal Peaks and only 15 minutes drive to Sheffield town centre or Meadowhall. t020 29-02-2004, 09:14 PM Originally posted by mega_monty Well you've heard everything ! Everywhere but Ecclesall is a hell hole to you. I imagine you dont even know where Woodhouse is.... No, there are plenty of other nice areas... Fulwood, Dore, Lodge Moor, Ranmoor, Crosspool, Tapton, Greystones, Brincliffe, Beauchief, Totley (some parts), Whirlow, Bents Green, Ringinglow, Hathersage, etc. As for knowing where Woodhouse is, it's east Sheffield near Handsworth. Would you rather I lied and said that I thought it was a lovely area? mega_monty 29-02-2004, 10:17 PM Originally posted by t020 As for knowing where Woodhouse is, it's east Sheffield near Handsworth. Would you rather I lied and said that I thought it was a lovely area? Nope, why would I rather you lied. The other areas you mention are at premium prices and is not where the original poster was looking to relocate. But you go shouting off about something you dont know about. Have you ever lived in Woodhouse ? do you often visit Woodhouse ? Just because its not one of the so called areas you mention does not mean its a hell hole. t020 29-02-2004, 11:07 PM "Hellhole" is subjective - if I think it is a hellhole, then to me that is what it is. End of. mega_monty 01-03-2004, 12:01 AM Originally posted by t020 "Hellhole" is subjective - if I think it is a hellhole, then to me that is what it is. End of. In that case keep your un called for "Subjective" comments to yourself. Plain Talker 01-03-2004, 12:19 AM Well, I, for one, could give some *very* subjective comments about what a S*hole, Hellhole, A** hole, (whatever) of a place woodhouse is! Particularly about the ******* (insert expletive of your choice here) who arsoned the woodhouse blocks of flats, including the one where my D-in Law and my three grandbabies live, just before Xmas!! They were trapped, on the top floor, My DIL and three grandbabies (3 & 3/4 yrs old, 2 yrs old, and 4 mos) could not get out of their flat. The firemen had to rescue them all, it was 12.30 at night. The windows do not open far enough to get a mattress through to throw the babies down, and there's no bacony there, so they could not escape the smoke. they were stuck there till help came. My (then) 4 mos old grandson ended up in hospital on ****(censored) oxygen, through smoke inhalation. My 3 &3/4 yr old granddaughter is still coughing and barking, good style, 2 months on, it's affected her chest so badly. The so-and so's, in the fire, destroyed three prams, (2 doubles and a single buggy) that belonged my DIL, so for the last 2 mos she'd had no pram to push my youngest grandbabies around with. my G'daughter said "Oh! Nannan! My house was full of black smoke! I couldn't breathe!" And you know if I ever get hold of the low-lifed-baskets that did this, don't you? I shall have their "family jewels" for earrings. I wouldn't take a property in woodhouse, rent free. hellhole? I'd rather live in flaming beirut, or baghdad! P "subjective? hell, yeah!" T t020 01-03-2004, 12:50 AM :wow: Grand mother? You're not even 40 yet, PT. Thats an awful thing to happen to your family. mega_monty - I won't keep my "subjective" comments to myself - helenw asked what the area was like, and was therefore asking for opinions. Yes, I am a granny, and I don't turn 40 for another month!! It is horrific, when you think about what happened a month ago to that poor woman, and her family, on Mount Street, and how easily this incident with my d-in Law, and my grandbabies could have turned out like that. Gosh, my blood runs cold, just thinking about it. It's terrifying. As it stands, the granddaughter is still coughing and barking, and the baby g'son, even now he's home from hospital, still has a "ruttley" chest. The middle grandbaby doesn't sem to have been as badly affected as the other two. As I said before, disabled or not, when I get a hold of the basket who did this to my precious grandbabies, woe betide them! as cletus on the simpsons says, I shall rip them a new stink-hole! Those babies are the apple of my eye, the centre of my world, the sun ariond which my world revolves. Thank God, they have now been moved, near me and Mr PT. and not a day too soon. They'd had nothing but bad luck ever since they moved out to woodhouse. 2 examples:- Incident 1:- when DIL was 6 months pregnant with the older grandson, some drunken P'head so-and so in the local pub went to swing a punch at another drunkard. Unfortunately, being P'd-up, his aim was out, he swung wide and as a result, he hit my Dil in her 26-weeks- pregnant belly. She collapsed, as you'd imagine, anyone would, after that. It was touch and go whether she'd lose the baby (thank god she didn't, but she had problems for the last 3 mos before she delivered him) incident 2:- Just over a year ago my lad was mugged * at knifepoint * in the village, for the DIL's mobile phone, which she'd lent to him. so, you can understand why we say that living in Beirut or Baghdad might be preferable. Woodhouse? you can keep it! PT Mo 01-03-2004, 11:13 AM I am Woodhouse born and bred and yes it has deteriorated over the years but believe me there are many places much much worse. It still has a community spirit especially amongst the older generation. You could do alot worse than buy a house in Woodhouse but best steer clear of the village centre. jessycar 06-03-2004, 08:21 PM Woodhouse is odd, it's a really nice little village in the day but is ruined in the evening by youths and drunks. There are lots of houses tucked away though. It's a decent enough area though. There are many places which are a lot worse. Ange 08-03-2004, 06:41 PM Ive lived in woodhouse for 14yrs and ive always liked it ive lived in 3 different properties since moving here there are some very nice houses and local schools and plenty of shops all closly 2gether it also depends what part of woodhouse u choose 2live in but in general its ok in woodhouse its a community it has a mixture of folk good and bad Rich 09-03-2004, 10:37 AM Originally posted by t020 "Hellhole" is subjective - if I think it is a hellhole, then to me that is what it is. End of. You sir, are a ****. Wattsy 28-03-2006, 02:21 PM I am looking at buying a house in Woodhouse, does anyone know what the area is like?? Woodhouse is not a Hell hole i lived their for 20 odd years and still visit my mums house so in total lived their 30 odd years. Any area has its bad and god areas. The village its self is close by to shops / schools and a 15 min drive from Rothervalley and local resturants. What type of house are you looking for. Crazy 28-03-2006, 07:02 PM I have lived in woodhouse village all my 18yrs off my life, I think woodhouse is good for ur local pubs shops bus routes etc. And the community is all round good, as some people say there alot of places worse and better than woodhouse. mega_monty 28-03-2006, 07:17 PM crikey this threads been dug up after 2 years, wonder if the orginal poster did ever move to Woodhouse in the end or did t020's comments put them off ?? darkscience 01-04-2006, 02:29 PM woodhouse is a nice area in general, the badger estate for one has had a bad reputation in the past but it has queitend down a lot, i've lived on there for 8 years now so i can tell you first hand, also with the house prices being so high at the moment people are snapping up the houses on the badger cos they are a lot cheaper to buy than the average house, as for other areas in woodhouse they all seem ok, i know the severnside has had it's problems in the past {like badger} but the authorities seem to be clamping down on troublemakers ETC, it is definately not a hell hole, i would say though to steer clear of the village square at night lots of youths and a few drunks hang round...!!! lint 02-04-2006, 04:36 PM woodhouse is a nice area in general, the badger estate for one has had a bad reputation in the past but it has queitend down a lot, i've lived on there for 8 years now so i can tell you first hand, also with the house prices being so high at the moment people are snapping up the houses on the badger cos they are a lot cheaper to buy than the average house, as for other areas in woodhouse they all seem ok, i know the severnside has had it's problems in the past {like badger} but the authorities seem to be clamping down on troublemakers ETC, it is definately not a hell hole, i would say though to steer clear of the village square at night lots of youths and a few drunks hang round...!!!i like woodhouse and lived on the badger for 7 years but as for the the severnside getting better think again it is THE HELLHOLE of woodhouse i can assure you mega_monty 17-05-2006, 12:00 AM but as for the the severnside getting better think again it is THE HELLHOLE of woodhouse i can assure you Thats one place I've never ventured to Strix 17-05-2006, 01:14 AM How did this thread get dug back up? There's a much newer one somewhere :suspect: Dj_Shadowman 17-05-2006, 02:29 AM i like woodhouse and lived on the badger for 7 years but as for the the severnside getting better think again it is THE HELLHOLE of woodhouse i can assure you So whats so bad about severnside compared to other estates ? Ok, so we get a few prats on trail bikes etc but thats about the worst of it now. HarrietStar 30-05-2006, 05:00 PM sorry to drag the thread up again.. but we are considering a house on Furnace Lane - I don't know the Woodhouse area at all but have heard it varies from part to part. Is Furnace Lane in the Badger or Severnside estates that lots of you are mentioning? Is crime an issue? I know that bus and train connections are good, what about other amenities - shops and resturants? Strix 30-05-2006, 05:08 PM It's not on the badger or severnside. It isn't the best spot to be in, but it isn't in the severnside/badger league either ;) You'll be right next to the station too, so town will be really accessible HarrietStar 30-05-2006, 05:40 PM what about parking - is it a main road/can you park on-street (its a B road in my a-z)? Strix 31-05-2006, 12:12 AM There is on-street parking. Have a look at google maps - satellite version for a better idea  philyyy 31-05-2006, 01:26 AM Furnace Lane is a reasonably quiet area, if you exclude the road that is, which can be busy at times but it's not a major route by any means. There are a lot of older people in that area and soon to be some more with the old peoples development up the road. You would be close to the Post Office, a couple of other random shops, the train station and a pub (The Junction), which is soon to be majorly refurbished and made rather smart by all accounts. There are much worse places to live. TipaDIceberg 26-07-2007, 03:03 PM I'm going to dig this thread up again, since I found it on Google, and it seems appropriate for my current situation. I am considering a house on the Badger estate, and am getting mixed opinions on this board, have things changed recently? Have any major incidents occured there lately? Also, it seems quite apt at the moment, how high above sea level is Woodhouse? Is it in the danger zone for floods? philyyy 26-07-2007, 03:15 PM It depends which bit of the Badger you get to live on as to whether it is pleasant or not. There are a few notorious families that would be best avoided but I'm assuming that will not be your choice. The area and may of the houses are much better than they used to be. That end of Woodhouse should be ok, but there is a stream nearby and the River Rother that could ptentially go mad, but I'm no expert on those things. littlrussian 26-07-2007, 08:28 PM If you look at houses in woodhouse mill be very careful, my friend lives at the bottom of furnace lane near the post office and they were on flood alert for days, and at one point it looked like they were going 2b evacuated (nothing bad happened, thank god, but not to say it wont if it happens again). I live further up into the village, and my house was fine throughout the floods. The badger estate - well im quite near there, and never had any problems at all. few youffs hanging about at swings, but nothin threatening at all. I walked my mums dog - (which is a poodle by the way) by the swings every day for a year and nothing ever got said! asitis 04-10-2007, 11:06 PM any one from woodhouse honeyb35 16-11-2007, 02:27 PM whats WAINWRIGHT AVENUE like please? Jsaon 22-11-2007, 04:18 PM If you have the seen the film 'The land that time forgot' then you will have some idea what Woodhouse is like. Failing that go and rent League of Gentlemen. The town 'Royston Vasey' is very much like Woodhouse:gag: You are viewing an archive. To view the actual thread click here: Sheffield Forum | |
