you need to ignore the letter 0 at the beginning of their phone number and add 0062.

e.g.

if your trying to ring 0123 456789

you would ring 0062123 456789

i always get the time difference wrong and wake my friends at silly oclock in the morning :loopy:

it might be a temporary fault because all you need to do is ring
00628 9274......

or sometimes telephone lines are default set to not allow international calls. you might have to ring bt/telewest and check

The code for mainland Australia is 0061.

Kirky, if you want to save a bit of cash, ring

0844 861 4141 first, then follow their instructions and your call will only cost 1p per minute.

And me too for ringing Japan....If you are going to be calling Australia on a regular basis, you could find it well worth looking in to. Skype is excellent.

We've used them a lot to Canada and other countries as well.

Full information is here (http://www.telediscount.co.uk./accessnumbers.php).

You just get the cost of the 08## call on your regular bill.

No hidden extras, just appears on your next bill as a normal call (cant remember the exact wording). I ring Aus on a regular basis, the system as never failed me yet, crystal clear line, must have saved me hundreds over the last year alone.

Just dial 0844 8614141, then after listening to the instructions, just dial the area code, 8 without the zero, in your case and then the last eight digits and the hash key and bobs your aussie uncle.

Skype is wonderful and I use it as well........ but ......

.......for it to be free, both parties need to have a computer with an internet connection (preferably Broadband) online at the same time, a sound card, speakers or headset and a microphone.

I also use it with a webcam so the relatives can see the grandchildren.

You can also by Skype compatible phone handsets that plug into the USB. Pretty decent
