I want to get a 17" LCD screen.

I really want something that is clear and easy on my eyes.

Got any advice? .. What should I be looking for?

According to the PC mags, LG Flatron and Liyama are both very good.

Just in terms of costs...

Highly recommend Amazon as a good place to get some manufacturers screens... Got one I'd found to be very good for a friend that way... Cost a lot less and was delivered quickly.

Try PC World or Dixons for good deals.

Feel free to shut up any time soon...

I don't trust the little backstreet computer shops for a start, as I've been let down by one of them in the past... Therefore I stick to known high street brands and shops, for the warranties etc.

Likewise some of the high street brands can be a nightmare too...

There are a number of stores online that can do very good deals too including dabs.com, simply computers, amazon... and they offer better price deals.

I do remember a true horror story from Dixons though that was much publicised on the news, etc... re: warranties so it's not a cut and dried story with any supplier...

Got a couple of Sony's and have always been impressed by them.

Incidently, Sony make the Apple monitors and are reknowned for their TV studio monitors. A little bit more expensive, but well made, no dead pixels and they have great pictures.

Just a quick thought...

DO NOT buy a LCD monitor from dabs.com as they have a very annoying returns policy that does not work in your favour whatsoever.

Otherwise they're fine but on these screens they take the mickey...

Sony are excellent, obviously, but more expensive than LG which get very good reviews in the PC magazines. i buy all my pc stuff from dabs and overclockers and have never had any problems, but if other people have then fair enough.

My problem with dabs is SOLELY in relation to their returns policy on LCD screens... They declare a set percentage of dead pixels to be acceptable and will not exchange them regardless of where the pixels are or what caused them.

Not exactly a great policy if you're an end user with more than a couple of dead pixels bang in key spots on your screen.

I forgot to mention that Sony monitors have a cast iron 3 yr warranty.
