Depends where you're starting point is. If you're travelling by MM in to St Pancras then you're right in the heart of things and just a 5-10 minute walk to Kings Cross. If you prefer to see where you're going all the buses which go in to Trafalgar Square, Knightsbridge, Baker Street, Oxford Circus, Regent Street, Paddington, St Pauls, Holborn Viaduct, Camden Town, Islington etc are all within a stone's throw.

So as I said it depends where you are starting out from and where you want to go. :D

I used to drive down to London, park up around Golders Green and catch the tube into the city centre from there. However.... parking restrictions in the nearby streets now ensure that you are time limited for your stay.

So I now catch the train these days. Stress free journey; no M1 delays caused by accidents, roadworks - or even burning fuel depots!; no worry over poor weather/driving conditions; cheaper than filling a tank with petrol; no need to stop en route for a loo; no parking charges on arrival; and the train takes you to St Pancras, where the tube will quickly whisk you to your final destination.

Here's an idea

Before going to Europe on business, a man drove his Rolls-Royce to a downtown New York City bank and went in to ask for an immediate loan of $5000.

The loan officer, taken aback, requested collateral. "Well, then, here are the keys to my Rolls-Royce," the man said. The loan officer promptly had the car driven into the bank's underground parking garage for safe keeping, and gave him $5000. Two weeks later, the man walked through the bank's doors, asked to settle up his loan and get his car back.

"That will be $5000 in principal, and $15.40 in interest," the loan officer said. The man wrote out a check and started to walk away.

"Wait, sir." the loan officer said, "While you were gone, I found out you are a multi-millionaire. Why in the world would you need to borrow $5000?"

The man smiled. "Where else could I park my Rolls-Royce in Manhattan for two weeks and pay only $15.40?"

Leanneisatre, I was so busy trying to find answers to your questions that I didn't think to ask you some questions that only came to mind later. If the questions offend you you don't have to answer them.

Why are you going to the London area by car and then into central London by tube? Are you planning to go shopping, to go sightseeing, to go to a theatre or concert or to wage violent jihad against the crusaders in their heartland?

I'm just asking because I want to point out that if you're planning to wage violent jihad against the crusaders in their heartland I didn't know that when I answered your questions which were vague and, having had more time to consider them, could be seen by some as suspicious.

Hounslow west.

Come off the M25 at 1st heathrow junction (missing worst of M25 traffic) and large fairly safe housing estates just across the road from the station... free unrestricted roadside parking and plenty of it :D

About 30 mins on the picadilly line into central london tho n in zone 5. :(

Dont even think about parking up in Golders Green or surrounding areas unless of course you want a whacky great parking fine with the possibility of your car being towed away :D Friends constantly complain about LB Barnet's traffic wardens their vigorous approach and dubious practices. When they start on the topic I guarantee they wont discuss anything else for hours.

It's a good 10-15 minute walk from Brent Cross Shopping Centre to Brent Cross Station and another 10-15 minutes from there to Golders Green. You have to do it on the return journey as well. There is a 210 bus which goes to GG and the fare is £1.20.

MM 1st class off-peak =£18 return for the inconvenience of a booked train with reserved seats. Standard fare from £6 if booked sufficiently well in advance.
