hI,
I am relocating back to Sheffield in September and my boyfriend and I (he currently lives in Pitsmoor) have found what we think is an ideal house and area going through all of the housing rigmorole at the mo.
Problem is, we are hearing really bad reports about the area- can anyone help us out?
The house is in Owlthorpe (near Crystal Peaks) but we have heard that Westfield/Halfway(behind our house) is rife with drugs and crime!
We really want this house (it is perfect!) but don't want to live in Beirut- bear in mind I live in South East London at the mo and am used to crime etc- does anyone know if Westfield?Halfway? etc are as bad as we have been told? I thought it looked quiet and residential!
Please help before we sign out lives away!
Thanks

Its not that bad, there are a lot more areas that are worse.
Its just lots of new housing with not a lot to do for the youngsters.

thanks for that- I just rang the police to ask them!!
I think people have different perceptions of dodgy, and my bloke has lived in Pitsmoor for three years and has never had any hassle at all, and the area is dog rough!

My brother has just moved out of halfway.
He didn't move out for that reason but he said that it was dead. Everything closes at tea time. There are some pubs, but the nearest one had a violent incident recently.
When I drive around mosborough, westway and halfway. It's ok the semis on every street look nice, but just like urban sprawl with very few shops or anything other than houses. If you don't drink watch tv every night and are happy to drive everywhere I suppose It's ok.
I on the other hand prefer to live in an old house in an established community with great links to town. I can get a bus every 10 minutes to town takes 12 mins. And there are more take aways, food shops, pubs, 24hour conveniences than I could shake a stick at, and just across I can see Graves park. a wonderful space with a rare breeds farm, tennis courts, pich and put, and cricket ground large woods etc.. etc..

Hiya!
I live in Hackenthorpe, I've not been here long but so far so good! I think Owlthorpe is just accross the road from me? The amentities are good, Crystal Peaks shopping center is a 5 minute walk and they have a retail park opposite with KFC, McDonalds and few more! There is also a health club. The Sainsbury's is open until 8 most days and it's situated near a main road with a handy tram stop that can pretty much take you anywhere in Sheffield.
I'm sorry, but even though I've not lived here long, I definatley give it a  I've not heard any noise and I don't even see people out of there houses past dark. Most of the houses only look about 10 - 15 years old and there are new estates currently being built. I do agree that it can seem essential to have a car but if you don't mind tramming it then you'll be fine! It seems like a nice quiet area but then again, I could be wrong! Anyone care to enlighten me?

i live at westfield, and i too heard LOTS of bad things, but needed to get on property ladder (sound like my dad now).
anyways..2years on and very llittle bad has happened, yes there might be some scummy kids wandering about and the odd phone booth gets smashed..but this is same of most places, owlthorpe looks a bit nicer but dont know... all houses around this area are quite neat and tidy due to only being built mid 70's.
and crystal peaks is very handy
