what is it with town on a Friday and Saturday night? All that seems to frequent the city centre now is kids and muppets.I go down there and I feel like an old man,(i'm 32).At one time it used to be a pleasure to go out,now it feels like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.

Do you think it would be a better place if it were just Tittyheeds?

Sheffield's ace!!! I went to Manchester last night, and we got into a fight before half of us had even got off the minibus! All night there was a feeling of hostility in the air; one of us nearly got glassed, and one girl got pushed over. Sheffield has plenty of muppets, but Manchester has the monopoly.

Small, made of felt with googlie eyes and thick wire attached to the wrists. Often seen hanging around dancing and singing with 70's / 80's celebrities such as Julie Andrews, Roger Moore and Ian Ogilvy.

Oh dear, seems you have been inappropriately controversial. never mind, you'll learn.

I really don't know why 'muppet' is an offensive term. Muppets are some of the consistently cleverest, funniest and most satirical things to ever come out of US comedy. Seriously, I mean it.

Not totally sure what you're getting at Mr Heed. I live in the town centre and it's not that different now compared to how it was when i first moved to Sheffield.

I get drunken comments about my dreadlocks (mainly good)

I get drunken comments about my height (mainly good/awed)

Dunno, maybe being so tall avoids the negative comments so maybe my observations are skewed *shrugs*

I thought "muppet" was just a general derogatory term. Didn't think it applied specifically to any particular person or group of people.

I prefer muppet to "****ing ****" or "****ing hippy" :D

Whoa! What's wrong with hippy? Hippies are great peace loving people. I'll not hear anything wrong said about hippies. :nono:

Jeez, get off the blokes back for christs sake!!.....Mr Heed made a fair point, the majority of towns plastic posing palaces are full of tools drinking their gooseberrry & raddish alcopops being abusive, crass and anti-social.

Give the lad a break and have a pop at me instead....I'm big enough to take it!

So where are the places to drink on West Street/Division street where one is least likely to be abused by a "muppet"? I went out Monday night and it was quite lively, but did not see many agressive townie types looking to kick my teeth in or stick my head down the toilet while chanting football songs!! perhaps I went to the wrong pubs, like the Cavendish, Bar One, Varsity and S1?

Perhaps the "muppets" come out only at the weekend?

West Street is generally fine - you get most of the problems around Purple (Berlins), Empire, Dikkins and other similarly crap places.

Depends completely on where you go - I'd have to say the 'majority' of the places in town are friendly enough not the other way round.

If you expect people down town to be muppets ... then that's what you'll find !!! ...

But tittyheed did make a fair point ... and I don't think he deserved some of the replies he got to his post.

There does seem to be a lot of idiots around these days ... not to mention mindless sheep ...

i'm sympathetic to both views - you'll get your 'muppets' in any city; burberry clad beer boys - but to be fair there seems to be far less in sheffield than in most places iv'e been

i lived in bristol and plymouth previously and been involved in so many scuffles in my youth whereas up here i really like going out and never get any hassle
