discovery 13-12-2005, 20:41 I would suggest that you make get yourself 'colour analysed'. Rather than thinking of this as an expense, its really an investment as it will show you how to enhance your appearance to the maximum simply by choosing clothing of the right colour to suit your skin tone.
Its very simple but extremely effective. Once you have had this done you can buy a small 'swatch' book with samples of all the colours in your 'palette' (ie the ones which will suit you best) so that you can carry it in your bag with you for when you are out clothes shopping.
You will be amazed at what a difference it can make. I know that House of Colour used to offer this service and I think you can also get advice on clothing styles and make up as well.
There's also a book you can get called 'Colour me beautiful' by Carole Jackson which is really good and explains this with lots of photographs for examples.
Perhaps you could have this as a combined Christmas present from your family?
Hope this helps.

Most of the cosmetics companies with stands in the ground floor of John Lewis do makeover sessions, where they make you up for you to try new things. The lady at Chistian Dior is really nice. There's a nominal charge, which is refunded when you buy a makeup item. Various friends and family have had wedding makeup done this way.
sidewinder 15-12-2005, 16:37 Topshop do a personal assistant thingy, where they pick out stuff that might suit you, and also a bit more modern if your 19.

As far as I'm aware, they range from £5ish to £10ish depending on the range (and virtually all the brands with a stand in John Lewis do something similar), but as i said, if you buy a product then you don't pay the cost of the makeover, and you can buy one of the products that they've used on you, and gain the knowledge of what suits you at the same time.
bronsonbear 31-12-2005, 13:51 the body shop do (free) make up consultations too, and their stuff is really nice. I also recommend the topshop service, you'll be amazed at how few people take advantage of it, so it should be easy to book an appointment.
