Can you believe one of the cute  dogs you see on my avatar has christened our new carpet. I tried carpet shampoo and mild disinfectant but it reeks of ammonia. Any ideas what might get rid of the whiff?
Thanks :)

bicarb of soda is a good mild deodorant (not good on scrotums though) :o

You can buy a carpet cleaner called "Pet Accident Rescuer" iirc.
It's like a foam spray that you put on the carpet, and you just have to blot it up. It's supposed to cleanse and sanitise the carpet where the pup has had his "accident".

Do you want to borrow a couple of black bags and a map of local rivers?
I heard that if you buy some really cheap talcum powder, which smells really strongly perfumed, it will stop the dog doing it there again. They don't like the smell, it also works with cats who want to mark their territory.

If you clean up using a solution of biological washing powder, that usually does the job, and if it doesn't then using a steam cleaner to steam the area thoroughly will clear the smell and disinfect at the same time.
