hi,
i've got 2 x .pdf files and a word document i want to publish to the web. I am hoping to use some free webspace to do this but i have no actual idea where to go or how to do it.
i have no web building skills.
any suggestions welcome, thanks
Your Internet Service Provider usually provides you with some free space.
Check their website for more information.

use a free website builder
activate your free web space account
upload files using a free ftp program

sorry to sound really dumb but where do i get a free website builder.
i'm guessing that this is some kind of software you can download?
am i right in thinking i build the website on my own computer and then send it to the webspace server?

NVU (http://www.nvu.com/) is free (and WYSIWYG). as is Namu6 (http://namu6.com/).
WebDwarf v2 (http://www.virtualmechanics.com/products/dwarf/) is also freeware, and WYSIWYG too
