Sunny_Sheff 27-02-2004, 01:16 PM If u havent been recently then ur probably in for a shock before u even get in. If u get in. There is a lot of new bouncers there just bein harsh about everything, causing trouble and generally not doing there job. Making it unsafe rather than safe.
They were payin girls to dance around lads then sayin the lads were trying it on wiv them and throwin them out and beating them up. Since its been refurbished they have a lot more excuses for turning people away and causing trouble. The student night has completely changed from being a good laugh and £1 a drink to higher prices and if u dont hav ur card, they wont let u in. Usually girls get away wiv it tho.
There is no search anymore inside so people cud take anything in there wiv them and there are less bouncers inside. I know a bouncer that used to work there and he got sacked for trying to stop the trouble wiv the girls dancing, gettin lads beat up thing as he didnt think it was right.
I think nearly all the old bouncers have left been sacked or forced out due to having there wages dropped by being moved inside. Apparently they now want, bigger, more intimidating bouncers there. The point of this message is to warn people of the trouble down there, dont get beat up for nothing and watch ur back inside cus as i said theres no searches anymore and less bouncers inside, plus theyd prob love an excuse to beat u up for nothing.
Bouncers are supposed to try and make it as safe as possible, not cause trouble. I've been going there for about 3 years but im not going back there again.
My advice: Go to Kingdom for a good night and good laugh. Or Po Na Na/Element if u like ur Hip Hop, Rnb scene. If u must go to Republic/Gatecrasher, be careful.
DaBouncer 27-02-2004, 01:59 PM I'm no longer a 'Bouncer' at Republic (not been for a while actually) since another security company undercut ours.
However I take on board your comments re: the bouncers, although I do find it difficult to believe.
Now allow me to clarify, I do not know these Bouncers, but I know for a fact that they dont get a very good hourly rate.
So it does seem very unlikely that they could afford to just throw money at girls to make them dance around guys in order for them to throw the guys out. Another thing is that Door Supervisors (correct term for Bouncers) are not allowed to beat anyone up. If they do they will lose their security badge and will be unable to legally work in the security field ever again.
I have never witnessed the scenes you are describing and I work part time as a Door Supervisor.

This is a completely unfactual statement, a doorsupervisor gets paid the same if they work outside or inside, it makes no difference what so ever.

This sounds to me like you've been turned away from the place or been ejected for some reason and you may have a vendetta against the club or the security staff. Just an observation.

This has to be the funniest and ironic thing I've read in ages. I'd choose Gatecrasher 1 over Kingdom any day of the week, but thats just personal preference. To be honest on a Friday night at least I'd rather be in the Fez Club (Pin-Up Club all the way baby)

Do you have any facts about what you have posted here? I have not heard anything about this (and being in the industry you hear everything). I've not read about it in the paper since one of the regular clientel I know for a fact works for The Star and she's in their everyweek (without fail), I'm sure it would have been in their.
However if you feel aggrieved in anyway, I suggest you contact the clubs management. They will no doubt look into the issue for you.
Sunny_Sheff 27-02-2004, 02:18 PM Thanks for your reply. Good to get an opinion from somebody who knows the insides. A door supervisor said that he had been moved inside since the new lot came and his wage had been dropped from around £7 a hour to £4.25 or something like that.
I dont know if it was because he was moved inside or not but his wages were dropped, he thinks to get him out of there. A friends relative also used to work there and has left because he also doesn't agree wiv what the new lot are doing and sais its just "gone mad" since the refurbishment.
I know door supervisors arent allowed to just beat people up, my sister's worked security there and got her badge. But we both know that door supervisors do beat people up and sometimes for no reason or they make a reason. Ive seen it happen.
The story about the girls dancing was a rumour from someone who thought it'd happened to them, asked around and got it confirmed by door supervisors that used to work there, obviously im not going to name anyone.
You are right about me having a vendetta towards the club, As i said in the last message I've been going for about 3 years once or twice a week and have been turned away before and gone back no problem. I accept that. But the new lot's attitude is all wrong.
You sound to me like you make a good door supervisor and it seems like they could do wiv people like u working there rather than the new lot theyve got.
I dont think the club care as long as moneys going in to be honest. I used to feel safe in there but i wont anymore. Your right Kingdom is crap but at least its not like that. If only there was more choice in Sheffield.
DaBouncer 27-02-2004, 02:31 PM Well I appreciate you comments... i do take my security work seriously and attempt to promote a fun atmosphere all round (for customers and staff).
Like I say since the new company took over the security on the door of Gatecrasher I have not had contact with the latest staff.
I know that the door of GC1 is run by two companies.
The first run the head doorstaff and have been there for years (and are still there). This company is called LeisureSec (http://www.leisuresec.plc.uk/industry.html).
They then outsource the rest of the doorwork to a local security firm (as I say the security agency I work for used to be that company), I have heard that it is now run by the security firm called 'Industry' (don't know if they have a website and I'm not 100% certain if it IS Industry).
However that being said I know a few Industry doorstaff (not from Crasher) and they are sound. Industry always seems to come across as being a professionally run organisation.
However if you have complaints I suggest first you contact GC1 Management, then if that fails LeisureSec (http://www.leisuresec.plc.uk/industry.html).
I can honestly say though I have never seen any Door Supervisors purposely cause trouble and beat up customers. I have however heard it has happened by some of the Leadmill Door Team (however this is unconfirmed as to the exact incident and if it actually took place... it's all heresay).
If you like Funky House go to Pin Up Club (Fez Club) on Friday nights... it's the best night in Sheffield bar none at this moment in time!
All the best!
Sunny_Sheff 27-02-2004, 02:44 PM Fez club? Is that near Po Na Na? I do like funky house but thought there was really only niche, zero and stonehouse that played it. Mite get myself down there tonight.
Another thing to add about door staff at Republic is the difference in which they treat guys and girls and the lack of female door staff. On monday night which is student night, lads were getting asked for student cards. One of my frinds got turned away because he didnt have one. We were meeting a group of girls in there and they all just walked in wivout being asked for a student card or ID, when i know at least one of them is under 18.
Surely thats wrong.
Also some other lads who we were meeting didnt get asked so it seems like they were just randomly asking people and using it as an excuse as I've been going to student nights for years and never been asked before for a student card.
Used to be able to hava chat and a laugh with the door staff aswell but that isnt the case anymore.
But anyway, i think if i go out tonight it will be either Po Na Na or maybe Fez Club if i can find it.
fnkysknky 27-02-2004, 02:47 PM I know at least 2 people that have been attacked by Republic door staff for no reason but it was a fair few years ago before they got rid of half of them when Gatecrasher was raided. Personally I've always found Leadmill door staff to be good - it's the only place I've seen a bouncer actually ask someone what happened when a fight broke out and then act accordingly. Unlike in Kingdom where a mate got thrown out for being attacked by 10 kids...
Only been to GC1 once since the refurb so can't really comment although I've heard they were atrocious earlier this month at Hed Kandi.

None of those 3 play funky house as far as I'm aware.
DaBouncer 27-02-2004, 03:00 PM Fez Club (Pin-Up Club) play Funky US House every Friday night.
Pu Na Na has now become club Element (RnB / Hip Hop).
Fez Club is round the back and above Club Element (formerly Pu Na Na). It's easy to find.
You are right about that doorstaff should ask everyonee for ID that even appears or suspects if that person is underage.
I'm very stringent on that fact... male or female... if you look young, you'll get ID'd by me.
On the student card issue, they should be checking all, rather than just one card if they are going to check.
However I wont comment as I haven't witnessed the events myself.
Didn't know Stonehouse played Funky US House? New one on me too!
Bedhead 27-02-2004, 03:11 PM i worked at the republic for two years - wonder if i knew/know you DB
if you work at takapuna ( i think u mentioned you did somewhere) then you know mick, micheal and chris (owner) if you worked the door at republic at the same time then i'd know you
anyhow, i'm biased as i used to know the doorman at republic 3 years ago, but i'd also feel aggreived if they carried on like Sunny Sheff reckons
fnkysknky - you off to Hed Kandi next weekend?
DaBouncer 27-02-2004, 03:14 PM I can usually be found at the top end of West Street, however I have from time to time worked at Takapuna.
Yes I know Mike, Mikey, Mark and Chris very well.
I only did the odd stint at Republic... never a regular doorman there. Last time I worked at Republic was when they had the Red and Black Gatecrasher night (Sunday leading into Bank Holiday Monday).
However I paths may have crossed at one time or another.
Sunny_Sheff 27-02-2004, 03:15 PM Some people get confused wiv funky house and speed garage. Some people say its funky house at stonehouse, others speed garage. I think it speed garage or maybe a bit of both.
Whatever they play at niche i like.
I think thts what gets people mad wiv door staff, when theyre not consistent. If everyone got asked for a student card, fair enough and if everyone who looked like they were under age, male or female got asked then fair enough. If they were consistent i think there would be fewer problems cus people would know what to expect.
But ive seen alot of young looking girls in there that look about 15, 16 and i know girls under 18 that go there a lot and dont hav problems wiv door staff.
Just remembered another thing from the same night. I went down later on to try and find the rest of my friends having been in Po Na Na and they wouldnt let me in because they said they were closed and there was no-one on the till. Ok.
Then a girl wonders up to them, and yep, u guessed it, walks straight in. Again, the consistency problem.

The two styles are quite different - Niche and .zero are speed garage (although .zero has a techno night as well I think now) - haven't been in Stonehouse for years but unless it's changed drastically it'll still be playing scouse house.
Bedhead 27-02-2004, 03:22 PM yea i'll be there - it's my birthday!
i know you don't make plans though cuz they tend to change as i think you said before!?
fnkysknky 27-02-2004, 03:25 PM yeah the missus wants to go this time so looking good :D
Agent Dan 27-02-2004, 03:41 PM I live right next to stonehouses and they don't play funky house or speed garage. They play commercial trance and scouse house. Only. I should know, it comes through the floor on saturday nights!!!
DaBouncer 27-02-2004, 03:43 PM So do you live in HSBC bank or Orchard Square then??? :P

Yeah that's how it always used to be Dan and I didn't expect it to have changed :D
Your house is excellent for taking the **** outta Stonehouse punters at night tho' ;)

You'd be surprised DaB - I've lived here 20 years and never had any idea that his house even existed - it's all good tho :)
Agent Dan 27-02-2004, 04:22 PM It's like having a secret underground lair - almost!
Sunny_Sheff 27-02-2004, 04:39 PM Scouse house? Cant find it anywhere! They play some proper tunes in stonehouse! Dont even know y i went to Republic playin crap like Ja Rule. Haha.
fnkysknky 27-02-2004, 05:10 PM You'd probably enjoy Kingdom then if you like the crap they play in the Stonehouse
Sunny_Sheff 27-02-2004, 08:08 PM Found out its definately speed garage that i like n i dont think they play that in kingdom. I think i'll keep goin to the hip hop/rnb nights at Po Na Na/Element.
fnkysknky 28-02-2004, 01:37 PM I told you that in the other thread........
jessycar 28-02-2004, 08:07 PM I got shouted at in Gatecrasher last year for being too loud
The same night, a woman bouncer also had a right go at me because I commented when she shoved me out of the way to get past.
Silly bitch!
Sunny_Sheff 29-02-2004, 01:16 PM Republics crap. Cud av been good but theyve spoilt it.
Andy C 29-02-2004, 09:54 PM I've never been impressed by Republic, never had a very good atmosphere. Been since it changed to Gatecrasherone and it took ages to get in due to the dizzy bird on the pay desk, the music was a bit pants, still no atmosphere and the bars were dire, selling beer in cans and the vodka and oranges were made with cordial and served in plastic glasses. Cloakroom staff were ignorant too.
I had a friend who got beat up by bouncers at Republic, when he went to the police the policeman said they got complaints about that club regularly. Didn't have any problems with door staff at Gatecrasherone, although women with clipboard collecting tickets at the door was well arsey.
brocco 01-03-2004, 03:04 AM Gatecrasher One?
No, No, No.
Should have closed Republic instead of Bed...
fnkysknky 01-03-2004, 04:04 PM Atmosphere at Crasher used to be great but that's been thrown by the wayside n all now - money grabbing gits.
Sunny_Sheff 02-03-2004, 02:43 PM I know u put it on the other thread fnkysknky, cheers! Ive got quite a few tunes together now, found someone on direct connect wiv a niche folder! There's speed garage and a bit of funky house in there.
Dint know Bed was closed, dint like bed tho either.
As for Republic, hahaha. No more for me. Rather stay in.
chbeating 04-03-2004, 08:25 PM am well gutted bout crasher. come ere for uni this year and was well lookin forward to goin all the crasher nites, seein all pure trance dj's an that.
an wot they done, play the ****test music in the world every nite now. the only time they have the actual crasher events on are during holidays wen am not ere.
Cant believe how **** they gone, gatecrahser shud be playin trance not ****in r nb and cheese.
Only bin about 3 time had a **** nite every time cos o the ****** music and will only ever be goin back wen they put their proper events on.
well wish they'd sort it out. sheffield needs to sort itself out all its got is rnb and cheesy music, bring back the tarnce and hard house nites
Sunny_Sheff 05-03-2004, 03:59 PM Not sure bout trance and hard house, they stopped crasher bein weekly cus not enuff people were goin cus the interest in Trance/hard house is low. Not many people listen to it anymore. But yeh the cheese is crap and the poppy Rnb, if they played proper rnb it'd b ok, but they play poppy chart rnb. Its crap.
