went to see it last night, amazing how a pg can entertain so many adults, yet 12 ratings only seem to get mischievous little devils.
any way film very good, cross between Potter & LOTR, long film 2hr20min, but very watchable.
wonder if they'll recreate the other 5 books.

Any advice on whether it could be suitable for a 4 year old?

Scary bits? Boring bits?

I really enjoyed it but some of the creatures are a bit on the wiggy side. It is atmospheric and while my oh pointed out that there was no blood on the swords during battle etc I dunno whether it wouldn't be a bit much for a 4 year old. The PG certificate says suitable for children over the age of 8 to watch unaccompanied but younger children and thoses of a sensitive dispositon maybe upset.
You know your 4 year old best :) and no I didn't think there were any boring bits

one or two jumpy bits, one or two bits that may be a little callous (wolf who grabs fox rather violently). if u haven't read the book i'll not tell u it all but i had a little sob at one point.start is a little slow but its required to tell the story accurately.

there rarely is i think, you also hardly ever see the "killing blow" or penetration of knives etc in any new pg rated films.

Saw it and loved it...only the rather lacklutre soundtrack let it down, but only slightly. The kids were great in their roles, and the CGI was wonderful. The little touches made it for me though, such as the mothballs rolling out of the wardrobe. Small details that make me smile.

As for the other books, they are planning 2 more films to cover the main stories of the other books. If my memory serves me right not much really goes on in half of the books, so two films should nicely cover it I think. Hmm...must dig out my Narnia books now and read....

I thought there was 7 books in the series not 6 as Willman suggested too..

Beakerzoid
09-12-2005, 22:45
Yup...you are correct....7 books, which are...

1 The Magician's Nephew
2 The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
3 The Horse and His Boy
4 Prince Caspian
5 The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
6 The Silver Chair
7 The Last Battle

Although the original printing order was...

1950 The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
1951 Prince Caspian
1952 The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
1953 The Silver Chair
1954 The Horse and His Boy
1955 The Magician's Nephew
1956 The Last Battle

Not sure, as of yet, which books are megign into which films, but will keep you posted.

I saw this film last night and I liked it a lot. For me the youngest girl Lucy was the star of the film. I thought that she played the role of an educated, slightly posh, well-mannered and very imaginative "spuddy" little kid really well.

The christianity allegory niggled me slightly because although it was never specifically mentioned as this, the more I thought about it, the more that I could see it was there. The christian right in the US are heavily backing this film, and the cynic in me says that it's a way of force-feeding kids christianity on the sly. :(

The bit where the wolf first appeared at the beaver lodge actually made me jump, which is quite embarrassing to admit, because I rarely jump even when watching horror films.

Then maybe you should have researched it somewhat before you went to see it.
C.S. Lewis's whole intent of this story was to portray an allergorical depiction of the Gospel message. He was afterall, a committed Christian. Its a bit like going to see 'The Passion' and moaning about the Christian content.

And anyway, God forbid, that in an age where small children are hanging their counterparts from trees, robbing shops, attacking their parents, whilst being fed an (uncontested) steady diet of 50 cent, violent video games and licenticious behavior displayed by their 'pop idols' that we should ever try to convey to them the message of Jesus.

Yep, I can really see where the harm is in that.

Anyway; I forgot to add, Yes, I saw the film last night and it's absolutely brilliant!

 Yeah it is atrocious - it should have had a subliminal message of 'take drugs, trash your life, massacre the lives of others' anything but the christian message of hope, life, purity and integrity - we don't want our asbo chav's getting into that kind of stuff....

Please get a life Daley, you are spoiling it for the rest of us who are not walking in darkness by choice.

"Hope, life, purity and integrity" are not solely christian concepts. It is more than possible to live your life in a principle and dignified way and not "walk in darkness"

Besides, given the sickening homophobia exhibited by all threads of christianity, I don't think any christian is in a position to lecture people on morality. Any worldwide institution which can't even accept homosexuality in 2005 isn't a very righteous institution in my book.

Frodo

Why have you raised the issue of homosexuality? You have confused me here. Are you trying to say something?

Don't attack Christianity just because it won't accept your homosexuality as 'righteous' Daley - it's not going to happen!

For your information, most christians are not against the gay community, I have gay friends and none of them have questioned Christian principles in the way that you have done, based on whether or not it supports their practices.

It is a weak argument you give as not everyone who is a non-church goer supports homosexuality either.

Well Daley, there wasn't one 'homophobic' comment in the whole of the film, so please stay on the thread topic.

Thankyou.

Went to see it yesterday. I loved it, the other half wasn't impressed. Think it was a bit too fairy taley and righteous for him. Thought the little girl who played Lucy was excellent, she could give Emily Watson (Herminone in HP) some lessons in less is more.

Loved Mr Tumnus and the beavers, I jumped at the first appearance of the wolf too.

There were some very small children there and the little girl next to me found lots of it a bit scary, especially the stone table scene.

So King Kong next.....should please the boy a bit more...

:hihi:

Narnia is a very good film with some excellent unexpected scarey bits!!

Darkness is better, you have to look harder at your surroundings, bright light can blind you.

Went to see it yesterday with little vidsterette. She obviously loved it to bits but i had one or two niggles :(

I thought the whole 'we are family' part came across too strong at times but this i could ignore.
The film though, didn't have the overall feel of quality i have become accustomed to. Epic films like LOTR, Troy and Gladiator took CGI to a new level but this film took a step back for me. More shots on location would have gone a long way in putting this right.
I also didn't think Liam Neeson had a strong enough voice to play Aslan.

On the good side were the Beavers. Ray Winstone and (i think) Dawn French were brilliant!

Ohh... I haven't seen this since i was a kid but i don't remember seeing Santa in it before :? Why was he in it?

I've not seen this yet but was hoping they would use James Earl Jones (like Mufassa in the Lion King) for the voice.

and

i don't remember seeing Santa in it before Why was he in it?

because the White Witch made it always winter but never Christmas so when the end came Santa was able to return.

I love the Chronicles of Narnia, I read all the books when I was little and watched the bbc series of The Lion The Witch and The wardrobe and The voyage of the dawn treader, does anybody remember those?. Truly enchanting I think! I havnt seen the film yet Im saving it for just before christmas but just thinking about it sends a shiver down my spine!! I hope it lives up to C.S Lewises genious, I only wish I could have been in it I think I would have made a great beaver or somthing!!
