View Full Version : Ski Villiage anyone been? Dandelion 08-12-2005, 16:46 Has any one taked lessons there? or wanting to. I'm thinking about but its very expensive. officegirl 08-12-2005, 16:50 used to go alot, and learned to ski there but i found it hard on the dry slope its alot easier on snow - i reconmend going on a ski holiday and having lessons on the really stuff ! there is a better place to go at tamworth tho Cyclone 08-12-2005, 17:32 I did 8 hrs of snowboard lessons there before going on my first holiday, seemed silly to waste time away sitting down all the time. Dandelion 08-12-2005, 17:36 where the lessons good?? did you lern alot inthe 8 hours? cheers Cyclone 08-12-2005, 17:48 enough in 8 hrs (and 2 hrs on indoor ski slopes) that I think I enjoyed my holiday a lot more than I would have without lessons. You might learn quicker by getting an instructor out there on real snow, but that will cost more. I also only went to the ski village when I had 2 for 1 offers from their website, so tended to do 2hrs at a time. insomniac 09-12-2005, 12:28 i learnt to ski there, i loved going every week. do it you will love it, then when i went on my ski-ing holiday i alreay knew how to ski and therefore could enjoy it more by takling the harder rated slopes. i havent been ski-ing for ages, i been contemplating going again seeing if i still can ski lol benclements2 09-12-2005, 14:56 Our school gave us the option to go there as part of PE when I was in sixth form. Very good, very enjoyable but I agree with those posts above when they say it's nothing like the real thing. fnkysknky 10-12-2005, 08:48 It isn't that far from the real thing in that if you learn on a dry slope and get the hang of it then you will be able to take straight to snow at a reasonable standard. Obviously there are some major differences but dry slopes serve their purpose. Once you're on snow you won't want to go back to dendex and snowflex but it's a good place to learn - especially in this country :) I used to be up there nearly everyday for years - learnt to ski and board there. Don't have the time for it anymore and keep squidging my knee which doesn't help but it is tempting to pop up every now and again. I got round the expensive lessons by learning to ski with school so it was cheap - the Ski Village had only just opened then as well so wasn't anything like it is now. When I learnt to board I was working there so had a free lift pass so had mates show me the ropes and then had to teach myself. Strix 10-12-2005, 20:56 We learned to ski on a dry slope before a holiday. When we got to Italy, we found we were of a higher standard than the couple who'd taught themselves on snow last year. We had boarding lessons on snow on holiday in the states, and were lucky enough to be able to storm through 3 lessons in one session. I wouldn't try learning to board on a dry slope, as the mat catches the edge of the board and it's much harder when you fall over :( marmite 10-12-2005, 22:19 learnt everything I know there, fun place, hurts when you fall. I learnt both Skiing and snowboarding there, both really good, but nothing compares to snow..or relaxing chair lifts |
