Tuesday Club by an absolute mile

the lineups and amount of big names (including not just dj's but full on live bands/ecletic shows) they get there is amazing and completely unrivalled in sheffield

soundsystem and stage is great and drinks are cheap. plus its one of the few places in sheffield where the crowd isn't either just students or p*ssed prats, or pretentious scensters - everyone who goes is just there to have a good time

I wouldnt count Climax as a nightlcub as they only do a "once-a-month" night.

People always get these definitions confused and personally, license/closing times has got very little to do with which category something will fall into!

A 'club' is primarily a venue built for dancing - whatever the music. It has bars inside it but they are not the focus of the venue, being there to dance to djs, bands etc IS.
Clubs = leadmill, plug, kingdom etc

An actual 'bar' is somewhere which the focus IS the bar i.e its somewhere you go to drink! Its livelier+louder music wise than a pub though, a sort of halfway house between pub and club where there may be live music, djs or even a dancefloor (as in clubs) but the venue is not purpose built for any of those 'extras' and is still primarily a drinking establishment.
Bars = takapuna, vodkarevolution, west street live etc

A pub is a typical english watering hole in the common sense with carpet, wood furnishings etc. There may be music on, but to a lesser extent than a bar and is less formal i.e. your not likely to get turned away for wearing trainers etc! Will tend to sell bitters as well with more an emphasis on pints than bars or clubs which tend to be bottle orientated.
Pubs = devonshire cat, frog and parrot, red lion etc

I love kingdom, iv not seen one post on this site yet, though i havent looked all that hard, that actually bigs kingdom up for what it is! So, Adam, i agree, best club is kingdom! (not gatecrasher!)

defo not flares, no customer service skills, kick you out only 5 mins after last orders, bullying thugs as doormen, and they're the best bits.

As a space, The Fez/Room/Club Atomic (as it was briefly monickered...although nobody - especially the promoters - adopted the name) holds many fond memories for me. Under the Boardwalk also. Po Na Na, as it was (back in the Remedy days), was pretty special (I've heard all the cool arabesque decor and little snugs have been replaced with err...mirrors...what vain times we live in...), but all the best nights are in places that you wouldn't expect: 4th & Back in The Mayfair Suite last year was pretty special. I'm sure many peeps on the thread have attended midnight soirées in abandoned industrial works...

the republic IS the best club in shefield, its a custom built venue, doesn't matter what music is being played, the republic stands out by 54 Miles.

no other club in sheffield can offer anybody wht the republic does,

A) best sound system in sheffield clubs
b) best chill out areas in sheffields clubs
c) multi rooms
d) custom built
e) cleanest
f) most spent on decor
g)biggest capacity
h) nearly sell out every weekend
i) biggest named DJ's in the county attend

do i really have to carry on.

so comments cas-bar, climax, please get reall!!

Debatable - loudest maybe, but not the best. I don't go to gc anymore after I lost my hearing for two days after going there once.
b) best chill out areas in sheffields clubs
Plug's Earth bar, Leadmill's little bar, and HUB's glass roofed bar are as good as anything GC
c) multi rooms
So does virtually every club in Sheffield
d) custom built
If you consider a warehouse custom built... Only custom build nightclub I can think of is Foundry&Fusion at Sheff Uni. Everywhere else has been built into an existing building.
e) cleanest
You're having a laugh with that aren't you? Compared to corp it might be cleaner, but plug/HUBs/even kingdom are often cleaner. Based on the smell of the water running out of the building, the GC toilets often overflow into the street on busy nights.
f) most spent on decor
Probably
g)biggest capacity
Kingdom is bigger, fairly sure Plug is bigger, Octagon is bigger, fairly sure Foundry & Fusion is bigger
h) nearly sell out every weekend
Only nearly? Leadmill, Sheffield Uni, Hallam Uni, Kingdom and most venues in sheffield sell out every weekend
i) biggest named DJ's in the county attend
As they do at several other venues. DJ wise Sheffield is going through quite a good patch, although most people seem to agree that what we need are more small clubs like Fez for the big DJs rather than converted warehouses holding a thousand people who are there to get ******.

1) Surely the music forms an integral part of the club, if you don't like the music then it makes no odds what the surroundings are like.

2) Clearly this is all a matter of opinion; I personally don't like Gatecrasher for all the above reasons, it's big, shiney, got flashy lazers, people go there for the drinks, not the music. Generally I'm not at all down with the huge corporate clubbing super-brand thing, I prefer more intimate venues like Fez and Po Na Na (Remedy was indeed the bomb down there, DefStef). Not saying you're wrong to like it, but I think you're wrong to state that it's CLEARLY the best for YOUR own reasons.

if you had hard rock, or a gy night in there, then i think the people whoi went to that would also agree its the best club in sheffield. it's about the club as a whole, what facilities it has inside

If we're basing it on facilities for customers, GC is definately below Kingdom / Plug / both student unions. Ever tried using the cloakroom in GC? If you go in after midnight, don't bother... by the time you've handed your coat in, it's time to go collect it or you'll be there after the cleaners leave! Bars take forever to get served, and you need to get a bank loan to afford the drinks. Along with possibly the strictest dress code in the city, but with moving goal posts - I've been turned away on a friday for wearing a plain (but smart) t-shirt, just after they've let 5 lads in with branded t-shirts.

If you ran a rock night in GC, it would be dead. To run a rock night, you need a cramped, dirty venue, preferably with sweat dripping from the walls. Something like corp or casbah... 90% of people either go out to get drunk, or go out for the music. If they're out to get drunk, the biggest clubs like GC are ok. They do exactly what they say on the tin. If they go out for the music, they go where the music is, and for most, a smaller more intimate venue is much more attractive. I don't think I've ever thought to myself "I want to go out tonight. Which club has the shinyest floor?" More like "I want to go out tonight - Plug's got a good night on, lets go there".

To be honnest sheffields nightlife has gone from bad to worse. We need some quality establishments set up that dont pack you all in like sardines.

To be fair, it might have changed a lot since I last went. I used to like it, it put on great gigs. I've seen Napalm Death and the Hanson Brothers there, then it went down in flames big style, playing crap music, expensive beer and rubbish bands. Maybe it's picked up again. Dunno.

Also, I want to know what this Banus, or whatever is.

Ah-ha, fair enough. Your complaint is very different to what I thought. I thought you were a Johnny-come-lately that was going to say it was mucky and played crap music, but quite the opposite - you remember it when it was muckier! :)

Yeah. I like variation. I've been to some very posh places, I've partied at squats. It's the overall atmosphere I'm looking for. If I'm with my trendy mates and we go round Manchester or London in the expensive bars, great. I'll dress up.

But also, I'll go and watch a gig at Cricketers Arms and drink cheap cider for the rest of the night. If I'm with good company, I'll have a good time.

in fairness and as a total neutral, why would anyone big kingdom up. the better days has long gone, the music represented in all rooms speaks for its self, **** poor. the actual smell and aroma from the beer in the carpet is terrible. and as for the clientelle then im sure people are scared to say any truth as they may offend and be considered racist. put it this way 2 years ago it was a good club of its kind, now it is just poorly run and poorly entertaining. i hate crasher but it wins kingdom hands down.
Sheffield is struggling for good venues.

2 b honest the state of sheffield clubbin ain't up 2 much really, republic - full of pretentious pricks or townies, leadmill - well if u fancy gettin ur head kicked in by the door staff for no reason then b my guest, kingdom - joke of a venue (its not called mingdom for nothin), did like fez - untill was bought last wk, can't c it bein th same again really, plug - nice ppl nice venue (but prefer smaller venues), and both th uni's well - pish
