Carl Lewis was one of my heros from when I was a young boy, I used to think that there was no finer athlete. What did everyone make of the article reported last week about Lewis failing 3 drug tests during the 1988 US Olympic trials. Apparently he tested positive for banned stimulants. These finding were apparently concealed for some reason and Lewis went on to compete in the Olympics in Seoul. Ironically enough it was these same Olympics that Ben Johnson won gold and later tested positive for banned Steroids and got stripped of the gold medal only for it to be awarded to Lewis, who picked up a few more medals also in the same Olympics. Lewis also refused to attend an Olympic Champions dinner in 2000, because that he believed drug offences were being covered up, was he talking about himself? Lewis is yet to comment about any of this so far. How many of Lewis's 9 gold medals are actually legit? Was it just the same case as in most atheletes where if you can't beat them join them?

Lewis has since prospered hugely from his success, and has was a great role model for children and was admired and respected by everyone. A legend in the atheletics world, Where does this leave him now with his reputation tarnished in such a fashion. Now, like Johnson, Linford Christie, Dennis Mitchell and many others, he will be forever tainted.

What this shows is that Lewis is one of the biggest Hypocrites out there and now even Ben Johnson is contemplating suing the International Olympic Committee for stripping him of the Gold Medal that he won by cheating.

Apparently, the level of drugs found in his system was too small for it to have been used for performance enhancing purposes, so that is why it was 'Swept under the carpet'. What I can't understand is, if it was not such a big deal, then why wasn't it mentioned in his greatly detailed autobiography?

I am so sick and tired of the negative impact of drugs in sport. I hope that the current "revelations" about US athletes are investigated thoroughly so that the truth is finally revealed.

The tired old clichés such as "someone spiked my toothpaste" or "it was the hormones in my steak" or "it was just a cold remedy" have stretched the imagination far too long.

Get all of the cheats out once and for all...and remove medals and awards from periods where athletes were competing during a period where they should have been banned. The testing system is obviously not working.

It seems that a huge number of top level athletes use drugs to enhance performance, purely because if they don't, then they won't be competitive with those who do.

It's just that they don't all get caught.

yep, I'd go along with that. Testing system is flawed, apparently.
