View Full Version : Sony NW-A3000 Software Problems
RegularJohn 07-12-2005, 22:06 Hi all and thanks for advance for any replies.
I have just bought a new violet sony NW-A3000 but am seriously thinking about getting rid of it due to the software, sony connect (taken me 4hrs to transfer 40 albums) which is abismal! Had a NW-HD3 before with sonicstage which wasnt the best but runs rings round this, so my question is can you use sonicstage with the NW-A3000 or does it just use connect?
Thanks
Get an iPod :help:
Only joking!
Im guessing it supports usb2, you could be connecting via usb1, that would explain the slow transfer rates.
Doesn't it contvert to atrac or something, I should think that slows it down aswell.
Not too familiar with the newest sony players, but there's my idea, but knowing sony, they probably have made it work only with connect :(
RegularJohn 08-12-2005, 11:39 The actually player is on par with IPOD, maybe a bit better but software makes it horrible, Im deffinatly transfering through USB2.
As for the atrac, that would mean converting alotta music already as MP3 and i dont like atrac even sony admits they shouldnt of done it, not much hope eh!
Thanks
Could be going up in the for sale bit soon
HazyJane 08-12-2005, 12:49 That's a shame about the software, I understand Sony changed from Sonic Stage because of all the criticism that got.
Having said that, I have a NW-HD5 and haven't one bit of trouble with Sonic Stage.
However, the player does appear as removable drive on the PC, so surely the NW-A3000 would do too, and you can transfer music onto it that way, as long as the tracks are already converted to mp3 or whatever.
RegularJohn 08-12-2005, 13:45 to be honest i didnt have that much trouble with sonic stage, just threw a fit every now and again, as for putting them straight on to the player i dont think thats possible cos when the software transfers them to the player, it 'wraps them' in something, i think so u have to go through the software.
is a shame cos it is an awesome player

The answer is yes and no!
I bought an NWA3000 (in black and it's sexy!). However, when it turned up, the box stated it only works with Windows XP and 2000, which is a bit of a prob considering I have Windows ME (I know, don't say it!!). I was really annoyed because nowhere on sony website about the player does it mention compatibility. Nowhere on Amazon did it mention compatibility! In fact, Sony were very misleading...on their website it tells you about the new improved software called connect player and has a link to their store called CONNECT store. In the top right there is a link to compatibility that says ME works with it. I now realise yes, sonic stage and downloading from connect is ok on ME but connect player isn't!
Anyway, I already had Sonic Stage 3.0 from a previous player. I upgraded to 3.3 and you can easily rip your CDs to ATRAC3plus and transfer them to NWA3000. However, the software is not fully compatible and it means you can't use the fav100 or time machine shuffle, or artist link. I'm not too bothered about these features at the moment, as I plan to get a new pc in the new year so this is temporary. So I guess it's up to you. From reading alot of forums about the software I know ALOT of people aren't using connect player until it's sorted out and they're all using sonic stage for now.
As for transferring, on my pc which isn't as quick as current pcs, it takes about 8 mins to rip a whole CD to ATRAC3plus 64bps and a matter of seconds to transfer it to the player. So faster than connect from what I gather.
I have to say as a piece of hardware its the dogs! Wow, it looks good and sounds fantastic. If it's not loud enough there is an unlock procedure available. I think it beats the IPOD in everyway for hardware, it's just a shame the software is a prob.
I have a Sonic Stage question if anyone can answer this..I referred it to Sony and they're looking into it and getting back to me. Prehaps someone techy here can help.
Ok, had Sonic Stage 3.0. Imported MP3s, fine, converted to ATRAC3plus 48bps, fine, put on E107, fine. Great fantastic in fact.
Bought NWA3000.
Upgraded SS3.0 to SS3.3 as can't use connect player
Imported MP3s, bad, sound awful, distorted bass sounds like speaker has blown. Jumps as well, pops and clicks. No point converting to ATRAC.
Tried MP3s on Windows Media Player, fine, great, fantastic. MP3s files are fine.
Uninstalled SS3.3.
Resinstalled SS3.3
Still corrupts MP3s on import
Uninstalled SS3.3
Reinstalled SS3.0 (my original disc)
Still Corrupts MP3s
Confused as SS3.0 used to work
Did a system restore
SS3.0 back as it was
Still Corrupts MP3s
Why???
Anyone have a clue what has happened?
BTW can still import CDs fine, so it's only mp3s
RegularJohn 09-12-2005, 13:09 iv had the NW-HD3 and now got the NW-A3000 and never used atrac format for any of them. always used MP3s, never had any problem with using them. maybe batterey life isnt as good if i would be using atrac (maybe an hr or 2 less). Also iv noticed the software is resource hungry, uses everything

I use ATRAC to fit more on, but even if I wanted to put MP3s on, I can't!!! I need to be able to get them into Sonic Stage first to import them to the player!!!
