View Full Version : Did anyone witness attack on Sharrow Lane this morning?
mangomonkey 07-12-2005, 15:49 Did anyone see the road rage attack on a cyclist on Sharrow Lane this am? apparently a car deliberately drove at a cyclist, knocked him off his bike and then got out and started attacking him with a golf club!! to add insult to injury whilst the poor man was calling for help amidst a load of shocked drivers. four young men came up from London Road and started punching the cyclist and chased him. He thought they were coming to his aid. He ran off and took refuge in a local school. Police are apparently appealing for witnesses. This is such a callous attack - what is going on with people???
Internetowl 07-12-2005, 15:51 sounds like a stunt....why would the lads just attack him - do you think they were related to the car driver with the golf club.
AlquarUK 07-12-2005, 15:52 Lets hope there are witnesses and he got the cars reg! :(
anonamous 07-12-2005, 16:31 Was it about 9 in the morning. was on the bus at the end of london rd and a cyclist seamed to be arguing with a driver at the traffic lights but didnt see him get out.
mangomonkey 07-12-2005, 16:40 Dont understand why the others attacked him - yes it was at 9 ish
wildnorthlands 08-12-2005, 15:31 A cyclist was assaulted by a thug in a motor car on Sharrow St yesterday. If you cycle around this area please be careful and do not response to provocation by aggressive motorists. If anyone saw the incident I would very much like to hear from them.

Is this the same incident as:

Granma
Ginger_Kitty 08-12-2005, 15:45 Dammit Granma you beat me to it!!!
lol, sounded similar to me too!!
I misread this and thought it was a warning that people in Sharrow were recycling. Sorry
I hope the cyclists is ok and the people involved in the attack are caught. What ever has happened between the cyclist and the driver there is no excuse for this behaviour.
Gethical 08-12-2005, 16:14 I thought it was a warning about recycling to...
not related to these incidents (http://www.southyorks.police.uk/news/details.php?id=1973) is it?
The guy in question works with my friend. He has a very bad eye (still in hospital) as he was hit by the club inthe eye. He also has some head injuries.
A teacher form Sharrow school dragged him into the school unconcious while the attackers were still beating him.
Lots of people in cars witnessed it but |I think were too shocked to help.

Internetowl 13-12-2005, 20:31 "Kill the white b**stard" what an interesting comment from the cyclists account - implies the man with the club was not white - yet its not been mentioned and it would be an obvious identifying mark - wonder why that was?

According to the account that comment was not made by the man with the club but, and I quote, by the:
Unfortunately, my cries for help were heard and a gang of Asian youths raced up the road. It was then I realised they weren't coming to help
SpeedwayDan 13-12-2005, 20:55 sounds like a horrible incident, hope the driver of the car gets a decent sentence

But if we are all completely honest, how many of us would?
As a lone woman in a car I would like to think I would get out to help someone but when they are being beaten up by a gang of 4 men plus another one with a metal pole, the most sensible thing is to sit tight and phone the police and an ambulance, and stay to act as a witness. There would be nothing I could do, and the likelihood is I would end up being another casualty. The same would go for men on their own. The only way people would be able to help was if they all got of their cars together but how do you know, if you get out of your car, that anyone else also will?

Actually it doesn't make me 'angry', wrong choice of word, not much does ;)
You make a fair point I'll give you that, but a teacher managed to drag the beaten unconcious man out of their way ;)
I wouldn't expect anyone to pile in, but surely people could have done more to help than just sit and watch!!? and how many stuck around as witnesses, or was getting to work too important?
Just seems not many are willing to put themselves out to help another these days :(
