View Full Version : Interesting location for commuting to Eckington?

I have just been offered a job in Eckington, but want to live in Sheffield itself, so I'm looking for an area where I can live and commute from.
I'm 30 and single, and because I'm moving into the area (from miles down south) without really knowing anybody it would be nice to find some kind of houseshare so as to have a friendly face to talk to, and I would also like to live somewhere with a bit of life to it (pubs/etc).
I will probably be driving to work, and so I hope that if I live in town and commute outwards I'll be on the opposite side of the road from the main traffic, and should get out reasonably quickly - though obviously I don't actually know the local roads.
Obviously from the driving point of view, somewhere on the south side of the city is going to be essential. I was thinking of maybe around the bottom of Ecclesall Road?
P.S. I'm looking for somewhere to rent, not buy.

come and live in walkley, i'm starting a new job in eckington a week today, we could car share

ps - i'd say that walkley is actually the "wrong side" of town to commute to eckington, handsworth and out that way would be more convenient.

Living on Eccclesall Rd would put you in the worst traffic for getting to Eckington.

Handsworth or Woodhouse are close enough to town (10 mins), and are very accessible for Eckington, or the Granville Rd/City Rd area would be geographically suitable - although it's more 'studenty' than you probably want.

The regenerated parts of Norfolk Park would probably suit you though

Except for the shortage of pubs.

I'd give halfway a try... very close to Eckington, not great for the nightlife, but right next to the tram stop for a quick journey into the city centre. There's no where worth living near the city centre that has a good route to Eckington in a morning.

a quick 45 minutes and the last one back at 23:50. The guy said he wants to live the city, not the back of beyond.

Have a look here (http://www.haybrook.com/search.htm), it's the haybrooks estate agents search page, but it shows a nice map of the city with postcode boundaries marked on (Eckington is in S43 I think). And here (http://www.mapblast.com/(xmu1vc55ouhc0yb5xh40w23w)/map.aspx?L=EUR&C=53.30777%2c-1.36415&A=41.56667&P=|70FC6D|&TI=Eckington%2c+England%2c+United+Kingdom) is a mapblast map showing where eckington is in relation to the city.
Basically you need to be on the SE of the city, or at least the S.

I'd be looking at S12, 13 and 14 if I were in your position.

I live in Eckington and work in sheffield so know the areas you best looking at. Anywhere in the sheffield S20, S12, S13 areas would be best for you, all within 15mins drive of Eckington, which is S21 postcode.
