The easiest thing to do is install the vlc media player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) beansforyou. It plays virtually anything :)

The reason they wont play is that you don't have the codecs installed for the various formats.

I go with Vidster on this though as VLC is a good all round media player and does not require any codecs to be installed...Oh and it's free.

And for anything it won't handle, try avicodec (http://avicodec.duby.info/). Tells you what audio & video codec the file is using, & gives a link to the download location for the codec if needed.

Cool, thanks for the heads~up :)

My mum has hundreds of videos, and she wants to convert them to DVD.

I was thinking of getting her a stand alone DVD recorder for christmas, so she could connect to the TV and Video recorder, and copy the videos to dvd that way.

My dad's got me thinking though, of getting her a DVDRW for her PC ( my parents are like mr & mrs Gadget ~ I don't know where I get it from  )

I was wondering, how could I wire up their Video player to the PC, so that I could burn her video's to DVD via a DVDRW?

Would it require a scart>USB cable and some nifty software?

What would you advise?

Thanks again

I know its a bit late - but you could also try media player classic - which is based on Windows Media Player (version 4 or 6 I think..) excellent for most file formats, and it runs as a standalone app (like VLC) so doesn't require installing.
