WELL I work in the debt recovery department of a solicitors, and there is usually only two of us working in there. But, my boss is on holiday and so that just leaves me. If i didnt turn up tomorrow then our clients wouldnt have anybody chasing debtors for them, which would result in them not getting there money back, which would end up in our firm not getting OUR money off our clients, which would end with me out of a job!

Erm.. no actually. SOMEONE in the office would TRY to do the work, whether they could is beyond me. I probably would get the sack if i didnt turn up without an explination.

Had our own buisness for about 17 years...mom and pop printing shop, long hours, working all hoildays to catch up while the shop was closed, ill or not you still have to go into work.

If you didn't get paid for a job you still have the landlord to pay each month, made money in the end but took a long time.

Then high speed copiers came out, computers to do all the typesetting, people now are able to do all in house printing themselves.

Finely went to work for someone instead, it was like being on vacation every day, punch in and out and leave to worries to someone else.

Kirsty, having been on the receiving end of debt recovery, might I add that were you not to turn up to work tomorrow the debtors would probably have a less stressful day than if you did. :)

If I failed to turn up to work tomorrow some software wouldn't get written, I'd be about 150 quid out of pocket, Gordon Brown would be short of a few quid and my colleagues would miss my witty quips and quickfire badinage.

I am not turning up to work tomorrow - I have a couple of days holiday!!

However, if I didn't, I would have the managers ringing me up to find out where I was and could I please climb out from my sickbed/hospital bed/coffin and turn up. I would be £50 short in December's wages and £150 short in January's (no sickness for a year bonus).

if i didnt turn up for work tomorrow my boss would go spare.

ive got a 30 page report to write with two deadlines.

first half has to be done by the close of play tomorrow (which will be about 7-8pm) for dicussion in a meeting on tuesday morning.

the rest has to be finished by 3pm tuesday for discussion on wednesday morning.

its fortnightly report that no-one else can do for me. my colleague has been on long term sick and im still the trainee.

I did exactly the same after running own business for 14 years,
best thing I ever did.

I'm a newspaper reporter and restaurant columnist. If I didn't go in tomorrow, there would be three food columns missing from my town's afternoon newspaper next week. But the newspaper would still get published... it always does!

aah, well if it was efficient, somebody else would be able to cover for me.

as for effective- im still not convinced anybody ever reads the blimming thing before the meetings and i have a right job getting people to give me the updates (that only they can provide) to make the report worthwhile.

im yet to be convinced!
