View Full Version : Graffiti around Derbyshire Lane... Who Dunnit?
On the 25th November and 2nd December (both Friday evenings) some little s**t has taken it upon himself to vandalise some of the houses, garden walls and Mount View methodist Church.
The graffiti tag is 'Mane', and the daubings I have seen are around the area of the Co op on Derbyshire Lane.
Does anyone know who is doing this? If you do, or if yours is one of the propertys affected, please inform the police, we have done, and the more people that do, the more likely that the police will try to take action.
Ousetunes 03-12-2005, 09:32 Don't hold your breath, scoop.
One of life's losers who daubed my business premises over the summer was actually arrested and taken to court (a rarity in itself I was told).
Good thing, I hear you say? No, he got a 'fine' of £55 and a 6 month Community Order with Supervision.
However, keep an eye on the Great Big Graffiti thread elsewhere on the forum. I attended a meeting at the Town Hall last Wednesday (30/11) to discuss this matter with a Working Group which included the council, Crimestoppers and representatives of Network Rail and South Yorkshire PTE.
In light of the above meeting which is 'ongoing', it would be inappropriate to comment further at this point but I will say 'watch this space.'
That's society today, peeps.
We choose to fine them £55 payable at £50p per fortnight as they're on the dole. I'd personally opt for severing the offending hand at the wrist as a deterrent.
Harsh, but fair.
No Ant not fair. Grossly disproportionate to the crime, barbaric, inhuman and uncivilized. Get real. If you're into that kind of retributive justice go and live in Saudi.
Personally I favour restorative justice i.e. if we catch them at it we get them to clean it all off and do something practical to improve the local environment.
They'll be banning joyriders from driving next
Making them clean the graffiti off won't deter them. They'll probably scrub it off while planning their next 'bombing' mission.
Look what happened when 'Fista' was caught for the ten millionth time. He was locked up for a few months, came out and re-offended within weeks :?
Just kneecap em. That will keep them off the streets for a couple of hours...
No, Halibut. I prefer to live in this country - the trouble is, society is breaking down and is rapidly becoming an unpleasant place to live.
It's not barbaric, it's a method of halting the alarming freefall of our way of life.
Would a £55 fine stop you spraying "Todger55" on a shop window? No? Would the thought of fifty lashes of the birch stop you? Bit more likely, aint it. Shocking by your liberal standards, not by mine. Rules are rules - make the penalties harsh and they're less likely to be broken. Ok, the severing of the hand bit wasn't actually a serious suggestion, but fifty lashes of the birch and capital punishment I'd happily put forward as serious alternatives.
Frodo, I thought you'd sailed into the West with your wrinkly uncle? :hihi:
It's neither the fine nor the birch thats going to stop me,Ant - it's the fact that I'm a well balanced, socially responsible, economically productive member of society, whose identity is well enough established that I don't need to shout my name over every wall around
Good for you, Halibut, you'll soon be a member of the local round table. I was using the generalised form of "you" as opposed to the more Halibut-specific. My apologies if you were offended by any distasteful inference, my fishy friend.
No antifish sentiment detected or taken umbrage at, Ant my formicine debating shop chum. I enjoy these little jousts. (Oops, round table reference obviously stuck in my psyche there....)
