It came free with the Pc an dto be honest, I really don't like it. It's due to expire in a week or so, so I need to replace it, preferbaly with something free.
My old PC had AVG which I shall download and also Zonealarm. My brother gave me a reg key for Zonealarm (naughty I know  ) so I had the full version.Obviously I don't have this anymore.
Can someone recommend a decent free firewall? When I had Zonealarm free version, it didn't seem to work very well so I thought I might try something else instead.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks

Zonealarm free always worked for me, but Sysgate is a pretty good free one too. http://www.sygate.com/

How about having a look at PCGuard (http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyonder/getContent.jspx?page=services_securitypcguard)

Norton well thats ...hmmmmmmmm  pants
Sygate is an excellent firewall and can still be used even though this product has been discontinued....no worries
Kerio 2.1.5 is excellent and at less than 1 mb is very lite ....from here (http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page7.html)
Also Netveda (http://www.netveda.com/consumer/safetynet.htm) this is also an excellent freebie.
I have tested all firewalls and all are excellent :)
Allthough i personally dont use a software firewall i would edge towards Kerio2.15
Good luck
I never bothered with a firewall, and have never had a problem...
If your careful enough, and know what your doing, you should never have a problem...
theres 3 machines in this house, all networked up and on the internet, the ONLY machine ever to get in a mess is my sisters because she clicks absolutley everything she sees, so she gets spyware this, and virus that... but I clean it out regular and she doesnt really have a problem..
the other 2 machines never have a problem, never been hacked, or had a virus etc...
Regular maintenance, keep your virus checker up to date, and mostly, be careful what you click... follow that, you should never have a problem...
I find firewalls cause more panic than theyer worth, specially ZoneAlarm, or similar, because every time anyone tries an attempt on you, it warns you, and people panic when they see this...
If you insist on having a firewall, I would suggest buing a router, with a firewall built in as A) the routers firewall will stop anything you can throw at it, and B) they would have to get past the router (which means port mapping) to get to you....
