No, seriously, Guinness, have to have Guinness when I go out, otherwise, usually carlsberg export as a second choice:thumbsup:

There are far too many to choose. Maybe if you narrow it down to favourite lager, bitter and stout. But even then I'd struggle.

Any as long as it is non-alcoholic. Tastes like yellow waste stuff - but at least I look as if I am having a drink.

Don't drink and drive kids.

Has anyone tried those alcohol free beers and which one is best in your opinion. Sorry - that's another thread I reckopn.

As for non-alcoholic, Bit Burger Lite all the way. The alcohol is taken out of the beer at the very last moment of the brewing process so the taste stays true to the alcoholic version.

I tried Hoegaarden earlier this year.

I think it can't have been kept properly, cos it tasted totally foul, and just one pint of it had me throwing my rops up, which is SOOO not me. (I mean one pint, all night, in total, not other beers-plus-a-pint-of-hoegaarden!)

I have tried various real ales in the dev cat, and at the sheaf view, and I really think that Abbeydale Brewery's "Absolution" is excellent.

Nope, that sounds like Hoegaarden.

@Dragon, Bitburger drive is the best alcohol free beer, they sell it in the Kelham Island Tavern, if memory serves.

Sorry Love.

-----------------------------------------
My favourite Lager beer of the moment is called
ZYWIEC the most popular brew in the south of Poland. Refreshing and tasty with a mild but nice flavour.

Other than that, Pilsner Urquel which is from Bohemia where Lager was invented in the first place, when a Bavarian Monk came over and showed them how to improve their brews with cold storage in the mountains.

And in the Dev Cat I have a couple of pints of Amstel. What a great drink, more body and taste than a normal lager drink and brings lots of memeories from my visits to Amsterdam.

My favourite Stout, as always, is Guinness and the best pint in sheffield is at the Dog and P. God bless Mrs F.

As for Bitter a session drinking drink which goes down well for me is Wards from the Red Lion in town. Bur I also like Federation and Spitfire.

One of my favourite beers of all time is Newcastle Brown, possibly one of the most robust and tasty drinks of all time. You can drink it in any country and it tastes just as good.

Youngs Double Chocolate Stout - perfect Christmas ale
Abbeydale Moonshine - Gorgeous when on form
Most Glentworth beers
Most Durham beers

As for continentals - Erdinger goes down well as does draft Bitburger and Grolsh.

For a bargain Waitrose Wheat beers are spot on.

Back in Manchester we swore by Holts Bitter, strong hoppy and dirt cheap. Mind you morning after I swore "ne'er again"

In Sheffield there are so many real ales that we are spoilt!

Do you guys have access to pallid American brews in England? I mean, do pubs and supermarkets sell Bud Light, Michelob and Coors, or don't they even bother?

Most Americans, I'm afraid, like their beer ice-cold and very bland, although microbrews and imports are gaining more and more fans.

I like beer that tastes like beer, though -- none of that "raspberry wheat with spicy chocolate overtones" stuff. I tried a room-temp bottle of Bass pale ale the other day and it was pretty good... bready with a slightly bitter finish.

Yes you can get all that kind of stuff with very little problem. The large supermarkets here have a massive selection of alcoholic drinks from all over the world. There are lots of people who like that stuff, and drink it in pubs. Budweiser bottles are available in pretty much every bar.

That's interesting you should say that. The old cold filtered heiniken used to make my mouth sore. But I drank some in Amsterdam and found it much nicer. Now we have the same heiniken here.

I heard a story that they added a chemical to the old Cold Filtered heiniken to give a mouth feel like it's colder, similar to how extra strong mints work.

I have heard recently that this is how MSG works. I wonder if there are any similarities.

Had'nt heard that! But while we're on the subject of Heineken, anyone know if the new imported stuff is supposed to be served at room temp? The reason I ask is because, when it first came out I popped into the old Hogshead (now Museum) in Orchard Sq & tried a pint. It was served at room temp. At first I thought it was just a dodgy pint. A few days later, popped into another boozer & the same again.

This got me curious, so I must have tried about seven or eight different pubs and everyone served it exactly the same! Not drank it since.... :|

To be honest its been years since I had a pint of Holts and about 20 years since I had a pint of it in Manchester. The Cask and Cutler managed to smuggle a barrel across the border not long after opening.

Currently I enjoy Moonshine when its on top form but there are so many locally to choose from that I'm always finding something nice. I like a good stout at the end of a night!

As bottles go I love Youngs Double Chocolate Stout

Wow! We've reached the 4th page of a thread about favourite ales and no mention of the legendary Blue Moon from the Pictish brewery in Lancashire.
As far as I know there are only two pubs in Sheffield selling it since Pictish has a smaller output. Kelham Island (congrats to Trevor and Louis again-Pub of Year) and the Sheaf in Heeley.
It contains wormwood and thus has an unexpected "psychedelic" quality.
I have experienced total loss of consciousness whilst still being on my feet engaged in conversation. I spent nearly half an hour at my door looking for my keys whilst holding them, much to the amusement of my son who was having too much fun to tell me.
I have also been regaled with first hand accounts of other's "escapades" on this brew.

I'm quite a fan of White-beers at the moment, and for me, the king (or queen...) of all of them has to be 'Moonshine' by Abbeydale Brewery. Unfortunately they don't do bottles, so it's rare I find somewhere that has it (I know places, I just don't visit them often).

Next would be Kronenberg Blanc. It's really fresh tasting with a fruitiness and hint of lime. (God I sound like some wine buff or something... just beer instead). They [i]do[/i do this in bottles, so it's quite a regular one for me.

Other favourites include Black Sheep of course, Hobgoblin and Duvel.

I'm more of a lager drinker than a real ale drinker, my favourites include Budvar, Bitburger, Warsteiner, Pilsner Urquel, and some of the strange east European bottles they give out at the sheaf as quiz prizes.
As far as Beer goes, Chimay and Leffe are fantastic, and my limited experience of Ales has included some examples of Pictish Brewery's products, all of which have been very good.
I'm terribly picky with drinks these days, having drank plenty of domestically brewed imitation lagers and found myself just feeling sick, Now I won't touch lager brewed in the UK - and I find stuff made in the US even worse.
