if you picked up exposed magazine this month its got a feature on how good music in sheffield is at the moment (with the recent rise of the arctics) and basically gives a list of bands to watch out for.

Harrisons
Trap2
The Long Blondes
Bromheads Jacket
Milburn
Daybreak
Stoney
LittleManTate
The Dodgems
Ninio
Silvejet
The Miramir Disaster
Rumpus
Little Glitches
and of course... Cellarhigh :D

Obviously by no means a definitive list but as far as I know all those bands deserve to be up there and probably make a good place to start if you're looking for good local stuff. Obviously will depend on your genre tastes though.

Hope that helps

TACOMA at the Corp this Thursday night (08/12/05)...probably the best band in the city.

The band the press are calling: "...the most important thing to come out of Sheffield in the new millenium."

I'm really liking Little Man Tate and Bromheads Jacket at the moment. I think they're both playing at the Sandman Christmas thing at some point in December, along with Stoney and a couple of others. Could be good.

I'm sorry, but I think the best band in Sheffield at the moment are KIK.
I saw them play in Birmingham a few months ago, I've seen hundreds of bands live and these guys are the best I've ever seen! I like to be entertained, also I like to hear good musicianship and most of all great songs and KIK have the lot.
I met them a few weeks ago and they are the nicest guys your ever likely to meet, which is a bonus.
I think they're that good that I've said I'll big them up, hence..............
Have a look at their website, you can download a few demos, the finished versions ( which are stunning!!) will be on their first album next year.

Milburn are playing at the Howard tonight (with a 100 capacity - sold out obviously) - so its not entirely out of the realms of possibility.

I think thats just as a personal favour to the promoter though.

Saw cellarhigh play at the Showroom and at the Harley not usually my taste in music but I enjoyed it. The Feds and Louis on his own are both good but I have to say that I do slightly prefer Louis on his own. My girlfriend and her parents love your band, and we (The Haze) are meant to be supporting you some time for a charity gig pretty soon if the gig gets confirmed. This is just a quick hello anyway. :)

carpenter
30-12-2005, 17:59
Well, KIK certainly aren't like any of those bands. I think they're unique, but that can then cause a band problems cos record companys are still looking for more of the bands you mentioned.

fairysnuff
30-12-2005, 21:04
Tell me about it it's verys frustrating, I know of one band and I won't mention any names who changed their style completely and became a more Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chief sound and as a result are now doing very well, but we believe in what we're doing and it's not very "now" but we're not going to change just to fit in with the current scene! And good to hear about the Mercury newspaper - I've not seen it but you've made me smile :)

Yeah, you have to stick to what you believe in and do the music you love to do. The Mercury has a page called Drag thats just for music, I think the writer is trying to drag!! the paper into the 21st century a bit more.
Lets hope Dead like Harry and KIK get somewhere this coming year, you both deserve it.

i think thats one of the best comments a band can get to be honest! Thanks we're glad you enjoyed it.

I prefer Louis Romegoux doing his acoustic stuff too, thats why I put him on at The Showroom but to be fair to The Feds I haven't seen them for a while.

Didn't know you were in DLH though! Have I actually met you? I'm the singer and I've seen DLH a couple of times, the latest was when you headlined at the boardwalk and louis opened (I think avangaad was the other band). Really enjoyed it and you coped really well with your last song going completely wrong!

Favourite track though was the ballad your 'other' guy sings, i think he plays guitar and it was the only one he sang lead on. if you have that one on mp3 or something i wouldn't mind having that.

I certainly do! You should contact Matt from the band Solarson. You can get his contact details on their official website www.solarson.co.uk from there you will be able to access their link to their myspace page, this allows you to listen to a couple of their tracks. You will not be dissapointed, they recently supported Jesus Jones at the Carling Academy in Birmingam and filled the place out, the mighty Ian Brown has also requested their support for one of his gigs in the New Year. They are also supporting Blackbud in January! Rumour has it they'll be playing at the Boardwalk sometime in the new year too.

I know the band personally so let me know what you think to their tracks and I'll pass the message on!

Hope this helps! Let us know more on you night at the Forum, I love any live music!

Erm, I can't think of hardly ANY bands in Sheff that sound like FF, the Kaisers or The Killers. Wanna name names?

Oh, and while I'm here - you can see three of Sheffield's more underground bands (Screaming Mimi, Repomen and Pisco Sour Hour) this Monday (Jan 30th) at the Harley at the top of West Street for nothing!
im not here to name names and **** people off for my musical tastes, but boring boring indie strumming with dull vocals wishing they could find a time machine to go back 10 years and move to manchester. there seems to be quite a few with muse tendencies as well.

Heres a few good ones off the top of my head...

supersonic winds of neptune - most entertaining
lee mchmahon - class vocals and lyrics
jim muir slideshow - unique acoustic stuff

I'm really liking Little Man Tate and Bromheads Jacket at the moment. I think they're both playing at the Sandman Christmas thing at some point in December, along with Stoney and a couple of others. Could be good.

i listened to a little man tate sample the other day - very impressed, i wanna get to see them the next time they're in sheff (i know they're at the boardwalk soon but they've sold out).

Rock bands wanted to play on Saturday nights at the Moorfoot Tavern to support my rock show. Original music with a few covers thrown in for good measure welcome!

It's a no charge on the door scenario (as in the style of the old Classic Rock Bar) and I'll wangle you some beers for playing.

PM me for more details.
