This weekend, they've had one lane of the Parkway in each direction coned off. However, I've not seen any workmen.

Any idea what's going on? Will it still be the same tomorrow or will the works be finished tonight?

From what I can gather they are simply checking the road surfaces.
They were at it yesturday too but I have to agree, not alot going on to warrant the extensive use of cones.
Dont know why they have to close a lane either side of the road either. :?

Sunday, 2pm today, sat in traffic from Park Square to Prince of Wales exit, one lane closed on each carridgeway with cones all the way to and from Handsworth junction.

Not a single Highways vehicle or employee in sight.

Congratulations to all concerned (or not, in this case), time and money well spent. Many thanks.

Mini rant over.

Don't know what they were doing but it was all cleared up this morning (Monday) when I cruised along at my usual 49.5 mph.

Well done all concerned at getting priorities right, for me anyway.

It's that time of year again. The end of the financial year (April) is near and the council departments have to spend all the money that they still have otherwise they'll get less next year. Does any else notice that roadworks, pavement digging up and the closing of lanes on the Parkway tends to increase in February - March periods.

I for one am glad to see roads being resurfaced, they are also doing staniforth road at the moment as well,so at least we will have nice smooth roads for all that summer driving.

Also ive noticed alot of new road signs being put up with halogen lighting. Makes a change from a few years ago when 15% of street lights were not working and you never saw any roads being resurfaced.

One final point does anyone know why the new parkway bridge has had security fencing put up along the complete lengh of it?

Looks like they've run out. Where the Mosborough bypass joins the Parkway the roundabout has a really bad area of bumps (just before the entrance to the slip road down onto the Parkway).

The workmen were there last Sunday, but instead of fixing the road surface they've just put up permanent signs advising you that the road surface is bumpy.

Thanks for that. I'll know who to send the bill to when my car suspension's shot to s**t.
