My Brother-in-law will be visiting us (in sheffield) from Chicago, he is landing at Manchester Airport on 25th Dec Morning. i am told most of the services are closed on Christmas Day.

Can anyone please tell me if any public transport Bus/Train or taxi is available from Manchester Airport to Sheffield on 25th Dec Morning ?

Trains do not run Christmas day or boxing day, buses don't either. Some Coaches run on boxing day but none on Christmas day. So you'll need a taxi I'm afraid...I suggest you book one in advance.

It certainly will be pricey. I'd suggest he have a big card with 'Lift to Sheffield / South Yorkshire required' printed on it and hang around the arrivals hall.

Max might have something there

Why dont you get yourself on Radio Sheffield and see if you can locate anyone else coming into the Airport and needing to be in Sheffield, so that they could share

"Are you expecting family or friends at Manchester Airport on Christmas Day morning? Will you be going to collect them or will they be getting a taxi? Can you find room for another one for a small consideration. Phone me on 123456789"

God helps those who help themselves and all that....

Happy Christmas

I am bit surprised, as I thought public transport was essential transport and would not be closed.

I guess, I don't have another option but to pay for the Taxi, which are going to charge £80 for a single trip.

The Car rental comes out to be more expensive as 25th and 26th are holidays, which means one has to rent a car for a minimum of three days.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Well my Brother-in-Law travelled on 25th morning to Manchester, He was dropped to sheffiled, by Andrew whom he met during his flight, as a matter of coincidence, both were from the same filed (Bio-tech).
It was act of kindness during christmas day. Andrew travelled from San-diego to manchester, Was styaing near manchester, He went out of his way to drop off my brother-in law.

My brother-in-law was really awestruck by this gesture and felt short of words to thanks him. Andrew only mentioned to pass on this act of kindness to someone else.

It was the most moving christmas for us.

Fantastic glad it worked out OK

See there are some kind and generous people out there.

We should all do more random acts of kindness, Ooooh

That was an album title once.

Can anyone suggest alternatives to the train to get from Sheffield city centre to Manchester Airport? Any reliable and reasonable shuttle services or taxi firms?

Thanks

cant think of any others other than car or bus - national express do one i think??

i use the Man Airport to Cleethorpes and Cleethorpes to Man Airport regularly and find it to be a good service because it is always on time and decently uncrowded

Sheffield -> Manchester piccadilly, then I'm pretty sure you can pick up a train from there to airport.
Are some direct trains as well - checkout

Why not drive? Lots of commuters head out that way! When are you going? I used to commute that route every day for 5 years. I will take you for a price!!!!!!!!

my problem is i have blagged a lift to manch airport for my next hol but will have to fork out for the journey back to sheff - which is almost the same price as a return ticket! i might have to thumb a lift home!
