I'm hoping to start a primary education course (French specialism) at Sheffield Hallam (Collegiate Campus) this September but I'm getting really worried about choosing where I want to live. I live on the Wirral so I'm moving a long way and want it to be right. Do you think getting catered halls is a good idea in first year? What's the food like? If not, should I go for flats or something? Or should i go for self catered halls further away? please help!

Personally I went for self catered as you're not restricted to eating times. And as you will probably find out, being a student invloves needing to eat at some very odd times. Eating pattern, generally goes downhill with sleeping pattern (see time of this reply for an example). Also, I started to really enjoy cooking for myself. 4 years on and I'm actually gettng quite good at it.
Hmmm, what else can I think of? Generally self catered flats have a bigger kitchen, which quite often becomes the main socialising area in the flat (depending on lay out and stuff). This may not seem too important, but having a kitchen/lounge can make a big difference when it comes to getting to know your flat mates.
Anyways good luck.

There are LOADS of students who live around Ecclesall Rd (next to Coll Campus) so doubt you will have a problem finding somewhere to live. It is a great area too. Really lively, really near town.
There's also a whole boatload of student accommodation in the Crookes/Broomhill/Hunters Bar area.
