View Full Version : Deep frying your turkey !
Has anyone tried to deep fry a turkey yet ? seems tobe the latest way to cook one.
I haven't tried it yet myself but many people i know have, although you need the proper equipment and has to be done out-doors of course but they claim it's the best tasting turkey they've ever had....3-4 min a pound cooking time !
What would you do it in ? you would need gallons of oil.

Yes you would. but the oil gets drained through cheese cloth and saved, oil last well over a year.
Don_Kiddick 29-11-2005, 15:19 you could buy one of them big catering drums of lard they sell at makro.
whack your bird in it & supend it over a fire on the patio.
leave one of the kids stoking the fire & putting more broken apple boxes on.
Nip to the boozer for a session & come back for a nice healthy turkey lurkey sarnie
R E S U L T !
Ummmmmmm it sounds so nice! And I am soooo hungry!
Maybe they will start selling it in KFC...

I woudn't do that, oil changes chemically after it's been heated and you're not supposed to re-use it.
(I read that in the paper)

You're right though :D
Repeatedly using cooking oil reduces its flashpoint which means it becomes more flammable. I believe it also increases the saturation of the oil which makes it far worse for your arteries but I'm not certain on that one. (I know it's worse for your health but can't remember the exact mechanism by which this happens).

I can't remember the exact science, I think I remember trans-fatty-acids being mentioned, or something like that.

Yes, but you're not going to DRINK the oil, you're only frying in it, i'm sure most people have eated some sort of fried food in the past......... how often do you think chip shops use theirs ?over and over again i bet, dosen't stop people from eating fish and chips !
Dump the Turkey and get a Turducken (a chicken stuffed inside a duck, all stuffed in a turkey).
Serve with pasta! Ramen!
