Does anyone have information on how to request a road be gritted? Do you send an email to someone or ring up, does anyone have this information? Want to be well prepared as our road NEVER gets done by this stupid Council.....

It is a Street Force responsibility.
You could try asking them who to contact and what their policies are using: streetforce@sheffield.gov.uk
The council operate a priority system for gritting. They ensure priority one roads are safe and clear first - basically your major inter-urban roads, then move onto priority two roads which tend to be main roads into areas and those with hospitals and large schools on, then third priority is other A roads and so on. The very lowest priority is residential streets which is done once all other roads are cleared.
I think this is on the council website somewhere.
- EDIT - WINTER ROAD INFO CAN BE FOUND HERE: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/street-force/winter-maintenance
I live close to the old Mosborough primary school which closed and moved to new premises back in 2001. As it was on an old residential street the gritters would come up only as far as the school entrance from the main road.
They carried on gritting this bit for a further three years before realising that the school had closed. I think the belatedly boarded up windows may have given it away :D
