They dont call it the golden mile for nothing!
Usually very expensive rent and astronomical business rates.

You certainly need a lot of gold in your pocket to buy anything around there! :o
I'm working on the Tesco extension and it's costing me a fortune to buy dinners, coffee etc. We've even taken to walking the extra distance to save some kudos (tight gits!)

We looked quite recently in this area. Occasionally they come up to let privately but are usually through an agent so you have to keep an eye out for a board. Sometimes the businesses are for sale, a fact the owners don't want advertising. If you see an ideal spot then ask the proprietor if they would consider an offer, you have nothing to lose and may be surprised.

Bluefin Restaurant on Hunters Bar roundabout was £25k pa rent. One on Sharrowvale Road on the other hand can be as little as £7-£9k pa but these are small effectively being the ground floor of what was a terraced house. On the main bit of Eccy Road it gets a bit hairy, I believe the new pastisserie shop just below Caffe Uno went for £25k pa. If you ever find one for sale they go for good amounts. The left hand half of what was Glover &Co has just sold and it's no secret that they were asking £425k and it went very quickly with a few interested parties after it.

If you have a fairly niche business that you want to get off the ground then why not consider Abbeydale Road, there are a few signs of life down here and parking is better than Ecclesall Road. Property is much more affordable too, well it is at the moment. Unless your market is students or well heeled housewives en route from Nonnas I think you are better off somewhere other than Ecclesall Road and let the quality of your offering draw customers to you. It might be a slower process but this can also make it more manageable.

Abbeydale Road would still work for Students. I know a few on there.

And because the traffic runs soooo slow on there, everyone would see your business as they waiting in their cars. Parking can be awful though but way better than Eccy Road.
