The gig was sold out a long time ago and his debut album "0" is superb. He played for 1hr40 and played most of the tracks from the album plus many others. Eskimo Friends was great, you could have heard a pin drop in the Octagon. Blowers daughter for the encore was magical. Woman Like a Man - Awesome. At times Damien went off into one, playing some really weird almost experimental stuff, lots of guitar pedal effects, bit like Pink Floyd at times, these moments were a lot heavier than I expected. There was even a version of The Beatles "Come Together" played by the Celloist and the drummer. Lisa the Co singer has a great voice. The halleluha moment was fantastic, Damien walking out to the crowd, no amp , no mike, just his voice and an acoustic guitar. Great songwriter and great performer, catch him now. Anybody else go or think he is good? I've never been to a gig, even a semi/acoustic one where the whole audience (2000+ people) stood in near total silence for an hour and a half...awe-inspiring does not even come close to describing it. Shame I almost got into a fight with two lads from Manchester who thought me and my mate were talking during his 'un-plugged' version of Jeff Buckley's Halleluhah...if you heard scuffles and raised 'Manc' accents cursin' near the back, I apologise on their behalf. Apart from this...9.5/10. Only hope he doesn't go David Gray style and turn 'very' main-stream. Good work Mr Rice. Mags tombodojoj 23-02-2004, 00:29 i did here some people talking, which kinda spoiled it as they were loud an i had payed an waited to hear damien rice, no-one else, hoe unique is the celloists voice?fantastic, mint gig, i heard he is quitting after this though:( he just wanted to do this and thats it, hopefull that is untrue but it will be a shame if it is. |
