I wonder if the Sheffield council are going to pre-spray the roads with mollasses before gritting.

It appears some other Uk councils are going to give it a try this Winter.

It is said that they use less salt grit as the molasses keeps it on the road surface and it is cheaper.

I wonder if it is more effective and what other issues it brings up.

It would be interesting to hear from anyone in the know about this method.

Happy Days!

But when it was trialed in rural parts of Yorkshire, sheep were found to be licking it from the roads. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/coventry_warwickshire/4460100.stm) :D

Great technique down Crookes Road tonight - the 'spreadnogrit' method. Designed to be financially efficient for the council. :|

A bit like the method used up Loxley/Wisewood the other night where the driver drives at 100mph and thus evenly but sparsley distributes the grit salt..

The other method I saw/liked, involved 3 grit lorries in a triangular formation on teh M18 a number of years ago drivin at about 30mph and dumping as much salt as possible making the driving surface 10 times more dangerous than the Ice/Snow that never turned up anyhow!!

I also appreciate the Grit Truck drivers that stop at traffic lights and don't turn the equipment off resulting in a machine gun sound effect inside my car. My son likes this one too!!
