i know these times are rather arkward but just thought id post on here to see if anyone has any ideas!!

Hi. I've never used a childminder before. I'm starting a new job in Chesterfield soon, which means I will have to set off at around 7am. My toddler is settled in the local nursery in S6 however the nursery doesn't open til 8. I'm wondering if childminders are willing to look after children as early as 7 and are prepared to drop them off at nursery?

Hi,

Could I ask which nursery it is? I have recently re-registered as a childminder and I live in S6. I usually start at 8am but, if I am within walking distance of the nursery I would be happy to help you out- I used to work in hospitals so I know how hard getting unsociable hours childcare is!
I do charge a higher hourly rate for unsociable hours, although this is standard practice.
Let me know and I will see if I can help you. My website is www.kerryslittlestars.co.uk and my number is 07840389034.

Just spoken to a really nice woman who works for 'at home childcare'. Nottingham based company recently expanded into Sheffield who match qualified childminders to families wanting flexible childcare in their own home. Hourly rate seems to be @ £6.50 so probably only really makes sense for families with 2 / 3 kids or where a couple of parents needing childcare club together.
We are thinking it sounds a better option than our local afterschool club.

Hello All

I am an Ofsted Registered Childminder based in the S14 area of Sheffield
I have a 0-5 vacancy on a Monday and 2x 5-8 vacancies all week.

I spend a vast amount of my non-work time on my continued professional development

I have a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Learning and Development

Advanced Safeguarding, Level 2 Safeguarding

Food Hygiene, First Aid, Safe Handling of Medicines, Healthy Eating, Healthy living, Conflict Management, Equality and Diversity
and I currently spend my Saturdays doing a Foundation Degree in Early Years

I am also part of the group of Childminders who have received additional training to provide childcare places for children who have additional needs.

I have a Good Ofsted inspection outcome,
I am flexible with hours needed and charge by the hour rather than per day for under 5's.
I do work evenings if needed.

Many thanks and please feel free to pm with questions.

Hi! I know it's a long shot, but here goes: I live in S6 and have a ten-month-old daughter. I am required to go back to work full time for three weeks, from 04th July to 22nd July this year. Our childminder is off on holiday next week but has said we still have to pay her for it! as she is self employed surely she doesnt get paid as we have to find alternative child care she had the holiday booked before she started work for us and told us about it but never said you will still have to pay me and has only told us this today which i am a little annoyed about. HELP!

jenz245
27-05-2011, 17:56
Alot of nursuries do this with bank hols, however I think that she is out of order.
Surely if she is self employed she funds her own holidays.
Have you got any sort of contract or details of her policies?
If she has stated it in those then i'd pay up as you haven't read them.
Think i'd be looking for an alternative though.

Lorri
27-05-2011, 17:59
Most childminders don't charge when they go on holiday, but do when you take yours.

jenz245
27-05-2011, 18:11
If you google childminders holiday pay/entitlement there are numerous threads on other forums regarding this.
Some charge for 4 weeks holiday, some charge for a couple, some charge half their rate and some don't charge at all.
Most state its in the contract and they make parents well aware.
If your child is happy with the childminder and there are no other issues i would pay if it's in the contract.
If it wasn't then I wouldn't and change childcare providers.
I think really it's taking the mick as they are self employed and have chosen this job.
No other self employed people would be able to do this.

beechy85
27-05-2011, 20:40
We havent signed any contract and she never said she wanted paying just said she was on hol so couldnt work (obviously) really cant afford to pay her and someone else to watch kids

jenz245
27-05-2011, 20:45
Did she not give you any written documentation about her procedure, policies etc?
If she did and it doesn't state anything about holidays then I'd certainly argue that there is no mention of it.
Who is having the children instead Im presuming the childcare has been arranged already?

We are paying parents to do it for us as we get a bit of help so can pass that on she never mentioned or gave us a written contract stating that she wants paying fully while off and as the holiday was pre arranged and she is moving out of sheff soon had we known this we wouldnt have bothered, she has been working for us for 6 weeks now and on the day before she is off she decides to mention it which i also think was out of order if she says she is having it then it will be last she gets as i will be classing it as her notice.

28-05-2011, 19:11
hi, i was looking at becoming a childminder/nanny and i would have had to give the parents/employers a written notice and vice versa if they were to go on hol but the pay was arranged before any employment would have commenced. I know it sounds awful and she looks after your children but she has no right to do this, especially as there is no contract. although if you manage to sort this out and she continues to care for your children, it might be worth just writing up a small contract so your both clear on hours/pays/sick/whats expected etc. I also had to take 2 weeks of my holidays the same time as my employers would have, and the other 2 weeks with at least 4 weeks notice given.

hennypenny
28-05-2011, 19:29
If she is a registered childminder then you should have signed a contract with her. If she isn't then paying for her holiday is the least of your problems.

When I used to be a registered childminder, I used to charge if I was available, but not if I was not. So for the parents holidays, I was available but they were choosing not to use me, so I asked them to still pay me, otherwise each of them could have taken holidays and I would be without money each time. However when I went on holiday I wasn't available to offer the service so I didn't feel I could charge. I was also a member of a childminding co-operative, so when I went on holiday one of the other members would offer holiday cover at the same rate that I usually charged, for continuous care.

I am a registered childminder and agree, I would only charge If I am available to take your child and not if I was on holiday. If she has not provided you with a contract I would strongly recommend that you get her to do one, other wise she doesn't have a leg to stand on. I always give at least 12 weeks notice if I am going in holiday and I usually seek alternative care for the family whilst I am away. I hope you get it sorted.

I'm a busy full time mum of 19 month old twins, trying to study a course and not managing to keep up with that or the chores because the boys are being quite demanding at the moment! I am looking at whether its possible to have some one come and look after my kids for 4-6 hours 1-3 times a week depending on what it would cost which I have absolutely no idea of of! Please, if anyone could spare a minute to give me some information on this I would be very grateful :-)

Many thanks

NEEDED CHILDMINDER WINCOBANK, S9

My childminder is retiring at Xmas, and am in need of another.

My requirements are as follows;

I need someone from 6.30am for 2 children-an 18 mth old and a 5 yr old.
The 5 yr old goes to Brightside school and needs dropping off and picking up from school and the younger one will be full time.

I currently work 2 long days and an 8 hour shift, my husband finishes sometime in the afternoon (he is a driver, so no set time).

Tried infomation link list of childminders and no success so far :(

Thanks for looking!

Please PM if you are able to or know someone who can help me-I would be very grateful!

Hello!

I have recently returned to work full-time Monday-Friday 9-5pm and my son (aged 6 months) has been in nursery and I have some BIG concerns about the standard of care in his nursery. He seems generally unhappy and upset on his return and has started to come back with nappy and sweat rashes. He has been consistently ill on and off with a number of different things (which I kind of expect to some extent) and they just keep getting his feeding times wrong e.g. they fed him a 7oz bottle and a 3oz bottle of milk within an hour (not my directions at all and seemingly illogical!). He also never seems to be playing and although the baby room was advertised as where he would be spending the majority of his time, he is never in there but with older children in another room.

His development seems to have stilted since starting nursery and its heartbreaking to think that I can't trust his nursery to take good care of him whilst I am away. Furthermore, he always seems to be with a different member of staff, some of whom struggle to communicate with me in English. I have never met his keyworker.

So its a genuine plea for recommendations-does anybody know of a good nursery or a childminder in the S5 or S6 area? Id be willing to travel further if I knew he'd be well looked after. Looking to save money if possible so £700+ nurseries are out I'm afraid.

Big thank you in advance

BadRobot.

i send my son to appletree nursey at gerenoside s35.
it is fantastic and if you can travel i would highly reccomend it. Fantastic baby room with mature and well qualified staff. no young girls on NVQ;s.
definatley give it a go, not fall from S5 and they have pricing plans to suite your financial situation.

Bole Hill Nursery, Bole Hill Road at Walkley...my daughter v happy there from age 2 until school. V caring, good food, indoor soft play, garden with play area, playground with bikes etc.
Can't speak for the baby routine, but their approach would suggest that they'll be good.

It's not a personal recommendation as i'm lucky enough to have family and friends to help with childcare, but my friend has had her son in Corner House nursery since he was 6 months old. She has been continually impressed with standards there and her son is happy and content.

Oh but just seen you dont want to pay £700+
To be honest, all the nurseries I looked at you wouldn't get anything under that price
When I paid for daughter fulltime 0800-1800 mon-fri it was about £730, but would rather pay that than save a few quid and have her in a rubbish nursery

Thats more of a babysitter than a childminder.

Someone that has to work to provide for their families, regardless to the hours or what job it is...
And do childminders suddenly turn to babysitters after dark? I'm sure there's somebody out there that will do this. I also know a single parent Dr that has a childminder that let's the kids sleep at her house occasionally.

I guess so. Regardless, the point I'm making is that Mr Pops' should hold off on the judgement. My friend quite likes doing the night shift because she can spend more time that week with her kids when they're awake.

No, Mrs Mozzy, duplications are not permitted under forum rules, so the best thing to do, is not to duplicate, but to ask the mods who oversee the parenting section to move the thread to there.

TBH you'll be lucky to find good childcare for much less than £700 pcm! I spent ages reseaching childcare in S6 area and the cheapest I found was £715 pcm and you had to provide the meals.

Advertising for childminder in your local shop/school maybe useful. Childminders are often linked to schools or asking at a local mother group might help.

Good luck

Hi, I am a registred childminder that will be taking maternity leave in June 2012. I currently want to help one of my parents to find alternative care for his two children once I take my leave in June (they don't have the internet). They are currently at pipworth School and need care Monday to Thursday 3 until 8. It is a nice little earner for anyone that is just starting out or any one that is low on numbers. If any one is interested about knowing more please pm me for details.

Hi Sam,

I am a childminder myself but I'm lucky enough to currently have a full schedule. Have you tried advertising on some classified sites rather than forums? Try sites like Tendea, they have a lot of babysitters/nannies etc or even Gumtree.
I'll see if i can pass your phone number on anyway and i'll see if anybody i know is free, where do you live?

All the best,

I provide a safe warm and caring environment where children feel welcomed and loved, and are able to develop at their own pace. i live with my partner and my daughter who is two years old. We have a large back garden that is secure with a variety of outdoor equipment, toys and a playhouse. We go on outings to local parks, farms, libraries, playgroups and other local events.I am an Ofsted registered. we have a pet dog but has her own kennel and run at the bottom of the garden so wont be in contact with the children as she is a little giddy. My aim is to make it as easy as possible to leave your child while you are at work/studing as i no as a parent myself how hard it can be to leave your child.

Ofsted registerd, pediatric first aid trained, advanced safegaurding trained, completed food hygine course, completed DQP in childcare, i am currently studing childcare diploma level 3 at sheaf training.
