View Full Version : Suggest a Hotel?
Hi Guys
As an ex Sheffielder who hasn't lived here since 96 I've lost touch a bit :(
Anyway, I have a friend who's coming to Sheff in April to do some work at a firm in Queens Street. He was asking me for advice on a city centre hotel, preferably with car parking that would be close enough to walk to his place of work.
Any ideas?
I was going to suggest the new hotel that is on top of cairos, well where cairos was - but I can't remember what it's called - I thought it was a travelodge but can't find it on the website? does anyone else know? - there might be somewhere better anyway.
I have spent extended periods working here and staying in hotels - I stayed in the Hol Inn Victoria for 75 quid inc breakfast with free parking and the Hilton, but that was pricey at 90 quid but also free parking and both an easy walk into the city. The other possibilities are the Travel In at the top of Snig Hill opposite the Co-op - they don't have their own car park but you can use the nearby NCP.
I think the one referred to as above cairos could be the IBIS (sorry I'm not local so missed out on the obvious joy that was cairos) - they also don't have their own car park but have a deal with pond's forge which works out quite good if you don't want to use your car during the week as you have to pay each time you enter and leave.

Not quite sure where Cairos was - not done club scene for quite a while - are you thinking of Travel Inn? If you mean across from the Co-op and near the Argos then this is the one.
Yes, The Travel Inn occupies the spot opposite Co-Op and is just down from where Cairo's used to be. The IBIS is located next to the main Post Office sorting Office.
For the best deals check out the following.....

You could also try the hotel on Arundel Gate, next door to the Crucible Theatre.
It has its own car park I think, but being a posh hotel don't expect it to come cheap....
The Hotel on Arundal Gate is called The Novotel, free parking there too.
Sorry I should've said his firm are paying so I doubt toot will be a problem!
*Twinkle* 19-02-2004, 16:11 Well... If the firm are paying, it must be whitley hall at grenoside... Bit out of the way but absolutely gorgeous and marvelous food! Free parking ofcourse! :) www.whitleyhall.com
His Firm are paying eh...
Well the special suites at the Hilton start at around £1000 a night dont they?
But in all seriousness, the IBIS near the ponds forge tramstop is good and cheap  and has parking both inside (behind the hotel, behind gates) and out front
thanks guys  i'll pass these on.
Caprice the Whitley Hall is fantastic, had many a nice meal there :)

Yeah I love it there!!! I first went for my Aunt's wedding, fell in love with the place so my boyfriend and I saved up to go for our 1 year anniversary last October... He loved it too! We stayed the night in the Peacock suite, which was gorgeous and had a lovely meal in the evening!! Whats more, its really reasonable to have a meal there as they have £15 3 course specials on all the time! The dearest thing is the wine, the cheapest bottle being around £11... A far cry for my £3 bottles from asda lol!!!
Sam Miguel 19-02-2004, 17:13 I think the Novotel is in nice central location. Spanish friends have stayed there and recommend it.
They did the auditions for Blind Date from there last year... I would've gone down but I couldn't get that day :(
I doubt I would've got picked anyway even if I'd passed the audition :(
hotel bristol on blonk street used to go there a lot with my ex gf a lot:loopy:
fnkysknky 20-02-2004, 03:54 Sister got married at Whitley Hall a few years ago and it is indeed an amazing place - not exactly suited for a business trip though - miles from anywhere...

It's about a 10 minute drive from the city centre.

i would recomend the ibis. i stayed there last week when i came to sheffield on a course from work. nice hotel
Yeah the IBIS is decent enough. I spent a night there the other week with a girl and we both thought it was a good place, cheap as well
(Wine is expensive though starting at £9.99 a bottle, take your own).
9.99 a bottle doesn't seem that bad. I stayed in a holiday inn the other day and it cost 5.25 for a glass of house white wine!!!!
Isnt Whitley Hall right out near Grenoside? You can access it through ecclesfield common tho nr a car place up a lil windey rd ???????? my nan used to work there and its meant to be right haunted.
I also think ibis is ur best bet!
fnkysknky 20-02-2004, 14:27 Yeah that's the one h20!! Maybe it's because I was rather drunk at the time it seemed like a lot longer but still don't think it's suitable if you're working in town. Ibis would be best bet, just my 2p :P
