so what do you do.

take the scariest horror film I've seen (Kairo) which has never been realeased over here and turn it into a US teen horror

The reason these remakes get churned out, and end up limp versions of the excellent originals, is that there are so many poeple who refuse to watch the Japanese/Korean/etc horrors because "If I wanted to read I'd go to a library!" Thus, to attempt to bring some proper horror to these masses, the filmmakers look at shipping it overseas and getting it remade. Hollywood buys it, and then turns it into yet another bog standard Hollywood Horror!

Personally, I couldn't care less. If people want to watch the US versions of The Ring, The Grudge, Dark Water, and never see the magnificent originals...it is their loss. I've seen them, I've bought them, I'm happy.

It does worry me, however, to hear the rumours about Old Boy being developed for a US remake. Not to give away any of the story but....Hollywood would not touch that with a 10 foot pole!!!!
